Quick update!
Thought I would post a quick update! Essentially things are moving in the right direction - I have managed to get on top of the pain and BMs are normal although still 2-3 times a day. I had to do 9mg-6mg entocort alternate days to get on top of the on-going right hand side pain - my Doctor basically said it is being caused by inflamation even though other symptoms were under control. Two weeks seems to have sorted things so plan now is to do 2 weeks 6mg and then 6mg-3mg alternate days. Last time I dropped straight down and I think it was too quick for my gut to cope (my theory). However 3mg a day was when symptoms started back last time (indicating further food issues) so my plan is to eliminate dairy next if symptoms return again. I have been on entocort for a year now and while my Doctors are happy enough, the side effects have resulted in high blood pressure medication and additional cholesterol meds - I know there is disagreement over whether high chloesterol is OK or not but this side of the Atlantic it is considered a very bad thing. I lost a cousin at 49 due to a heart attack and her cholesterol was through the roof. Coronory disease runs in my family and I am not risking it! Otherwise all is well, thank God!

Anne,
Your plan sounds good to me, and I hope it goes smoothly.
I also agree that being predisposed to high cholesterol is hereditary, and it's definitely a bad thing at your age. It's when you're at least 15 or 20 years older than the situation begins to reverse.
Thanks for the update and good luck with reducing your Entocort dosage. I'll bet you're right about dairy being a problem, too.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Ann,
Sounds like a solid plan. Going off the Entocort slowly is a good idea. Being predisposed to heart disease makes a difference in choosing cholesterol medicine or not. We are here to support each other no matter what.
Thanks for your update and I was glad to hear that you are moving in the right direction.
Best,
Cory

Sounds like a good plan Ann! If I were you I'd try getting off dairy as soon as you can. It's more than likely causing you issues. Plus it's inflammatory and we don't need that! I found it harder giving up the dairy but have found substitutes and now I don't really miss it at all. Let us know how it goes!
I have high cholesterol/high blood pressure in my family. Unfortunately the beta blockers the doctor gave me for my high heart rate triggered my MC...huh...who would have thought?! Makes me mad as I really need them. You may be surprised to find your cholesterol going down by just giving up the dairy. Maybe trying a Paleo type diet? My cholesterol improved greatly just by giving up dairy, sugar and gluten....totally amazed my doctor.
Take Care,
Terri

Hi Anne,
I like your plan, I wish you all the best. My doctor has given me no advice about how to taper from the entocort! I migh.t copy your plan w alternating 9 and 6 mgs for a while.
I am off dairy, and oddly not missing it one bit. That is the biggest surprise I've had since my diagnosis.
Sincerely,
Nancy
