How many here have used saliva test instead of blood tests?

Post by desertrat »

Just curious how many people have used a saliva test and did you think the results were more accurate?

For example, I have high morning cortisol levels from my blood test. However, I haven't a clue as to what those levels are for the rest of the day. A saliva cortisol test would measure my cortisol levels throughout the day. Has anyone ever had a saliva cortisol test done?

Also, has anyone heard about blood spot testing? It is supposed to be easier and more accurate than regular blood tests.

Blessings,

I have been doing saliva tests for years. I believe they are more accurate than blood tests. I have not done the blood spot tests yet although I have them to do.

You can do the cortisol tests four different times per day. I have done them but not recently. I have been using NutraMedix Adrenal support drops for the last 8 months. On my last saliva test, my cortisol was in the normal range. I order them online and they are relatively inexpensive. I put 8 drops in water every morning and swish in my mouth, then swallow. I believe they have helped me.

I have an example of the salvia testing to tell you about. Several years ago, my secretary was taking synthetic estrogen. I was concerned for her and paid for her to take the saliva tests. Her estrogen was very high and progesterone was very low. Her doctor laughed when she showed the tests to him. Two years later, she had estrogen induced breast cancer.

I am a firm believer in the saliva tests.

Hope this helps,

Hi Mandy,

I've only used a saliva test for DNA testing.

I have used blood spot samples for a vitamin D test, though. The lab endorsed by the Vitamin D Council uses that method, and the results were where I expected them to be, so I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the test. With this method, it's easy to collect the samples yourself and send them direct to the lab. And the cost is reasonable, too. I believe I paid somewhere between 65 and 70 bucks for the test kit. My doctor virtually always forgets to order a vitamin D test, so I just did it myself last time.

I have done the saliva tests twice trying to determine my cortisol levels. The first time I was low, (morning, noon, afternoon) and high, evening (which would explain my sleep issues.) The 2nd time I was low, morning, high, noon (I was taking some NDT in the morning) low afternoon and still high in the evening. I've been adjusting my NDT and I think I'm improving. My sleep is a bit better and my energy is a whole lot better. I think my adrenals were really messed up with a whole lot of stress. Deb

Thanks everyone. I think I will try the saliva tests, since the blood test for cortisol only a one time thing.
