Spices The Good and the bad

Post by Doug »

There is a lot of things written on different foods, but what about spices

Sugar Appears to cause inflammation
Salt
Pepper
Garlic
Lawrys seasoning
A1-stake sauce

Any thoughts on these or other that are safe or not so safe.

Sugar is not a spice. I can handle all spices, but those that are derived from peppers might give people problems because they are nightshades. Some of us might not do well with onion and garlic powder if they have problems with those foods. Also, with some "all in one" seasonings, sometimes they put "other" ingredients in it, so you must read the label.

Hi Doug,

I can't handle sugar but am ok w/ stevia. I seem to be ok with all spices but I steer clear of multi spices. Early on I steered clear of onion and garlic as spices and chopped. Now I'm fine with anything onion and garlic.

Stay away from all things Mexican or anything too spicy! Deadly for us...

Agree with what has already been said. OK for me with almost any spice except "mixtures" of spices - more than likely contain gluten.

Most spices are very high in histamines, so I avoid almost all spices. I tested yellow or read for many of them.

I use ginger, sage, and salt in my turkey sausage, sage, parsley and celery in my turkey broth, but they are strained out of the broth. I use salt, but not pepper, because it seemed to irritate my gut.

I put almond extract in my almond muffins, but don't use any other seasonings in my muffins. I'd love to use cinnamon, but it's high in histamines.

I do use dry mustard, though I recently read that it's high in histamines. I avoid both catsup and prepared mustard because they contain vinegar, which is high in histamines.

I reacted to onions and green pepper early on the MC diet path and haven't tested them since.

My main seasoning is salt.
