So tired

Post by christymk »

Hi everybody. A little bit about me. I began having D problems about 12 years ago and after various doctors and a colonoscopy was misdiagnosed with proctitis and prescribed Asacol and Canasa which I reacted very negatively to and put me in the hospital for over a week because my potassium was so low. After all that the doctor said I had IBS and due to all distrust I did not go back to a GI for several years and suffered through with some periods of time being ok and some worse. Then I moved to Florida and found a great PCP who recommended a GI and I agreed to go. He tried every type of medication and finally did another colonoscopy and I was finally correctly diagnosed a little over 2 years ago. When I found this site I went gluten free and have been for 2 years. Last year I finally had the money to do the Entero Lab testing and found my other sensitivities. I really wanted to go off of the Entocort which I did last December. I was still having D issues by April so I did a complete elimination diet for about 2 months and pretty much just ate turkey and potatoes. Within the last month and half I have added in some additional foods and I'm doing great. The best my movements have been off Entocort in years. I'm very happy right now. My only problem is that I'm still very, very tired all the time. I take a multi vitamin, B12 (pill form), calcium, vitamin D and L-glutamine. Any suggestions? Should I be taking B vitamins sublingual or drop form? Would that help? By the way, I love everyone on this site and I would still be miserable without everything I've learned here and from Tex's book. Thanks Tex!

Hi Christy,

It's great to hear that you've been able to control your MC symptoms so well after so many years suffering due to doctors who don't understand the disease. It often takes a while for the fatigue to fade away. For some us, sublingual or liquid vitamins do seem to work much better than the conventional ones. With your digestive symptoms under such good control though, you should be able to absorb most vitamins normally. That said, while sublingual vitamins are more expensive, they might be worth trying, to see if it makes a difference.

Have you had your thyroid function tested lately? Fatigue is a common problem with untreated hypothyroidism (or under-treated hypothyroidism). And according to our survey, people who have MC are approximately 7 times as likely to have thyroid problems as someone in the general population. That's an extremely high correlation.

Thank you for the update, and for the kind words. I hope that the fatigue problem fades away also, so that you can fully enjoy your remission.

Christy,
Have you had your vit d level check recently???

Something to be mindful of, if you are deficient in vit d, your body will struggle to absorb the nutrients from food and supplements.
Even if you are taking vit d tablets.

This may explain or be a reason for the fatigue....

Happy healing

Hi Christy!

The fatigue can be overwhelming! When first diagnosed with MC I remember falling in bed at 9 PM, sleeping 12 hours, and waking up feeling totally exhausted and depleted. I found that fatigue was the symptom that took the longest to improve. It was a full 2 years after my MC was in control (after I had eliminated most of my unsafe foods) that I was back to square one with regard to fatigue. Hang in there.

Love,

Polly

Hi Christy,

It's great to hear that you are feeling well, aside from the fatigue. I'm sure it will improve in time since it seems you're doing well with your digestion. I completely agree with Tex about having your thyroid levels checked. I'm one with thyroid issues and MC. I'm also in South FL so it's nice to 'meet' someone else on here from the area. I'm glad you found a good PCP and GI to diagnose you.

Best wishes to you on continued good health!

Hi Christy,

Also check ferritin (iron) scores next time you have blood drawn. Consider methyl sublingual B12 (methylcobalamin). It is easier absorbed for those with inflammatory bowel disease. It's taken about 18-20 months for me to recover from the fatigue.

Just wanted to chime in that I ended up being anemic and needing iron infusions about 3 months after my diagnosis of LC. I'm still pretty tired and don't have much energy for anything except work (I work 44 hours a week). Thank goodness my hubby is a house husband and does all the stuff at home. I feel very blessed and try every day to eat properly and manage my stress. Good luck to you.

Hi,

That feeling of being tired is sooooo annoying. I felt tired every single day. Now that I am in full remission, and this since a few months, the feeling of being tired fades away bit by bit.

Did you wean off the entocort slowly? Some of us have had trouble with adrenal fatigue due to the entocort, mostly because of the weaning off proces which was too fast. You can get a test for that. It's a bloodtest where they look at your cortisol levels.

Grts

Hi,

I forgot to mention that the adrenal fatigue problem occured with me, so that's why I shared this. I felt soooooo tired, that's actually the main symptom.

Hope you feel better soon!

Good luck!

Thanks Julie. I haven't heard of adrenal fatigue. I withdrew from the Entocort slowly and its been 7 months now since I took my last dose. How long did the adrenal fatigue last? Were there other symptoms?
