holidays/birthdays/allergic reactions!

Post by CAMary »

Wow -

Been busy here - Mike's birthday was the 19th, and Elyse's was yesterday. Had to squeeze in T'giving between the 2 and someone had the brilliant idea to give the kids all of last week off of school

We came home extra early on Friday from the wine country - Elyse's left eye swelled up Thanksgiving night - looked to be some sort of reaction - sent Mike out cruising the local minimarts for Benadryl - he could only find the capsules, so then he went to the ER to get dosing instructions...good thing since later that night my SIL had what seemed to be an allergic reaction to something she ate (she is highly allergic to shellfish - but there was none - all we can deduce is there was some sort of cross-contamination - or she has a new allergy  ) Anyways, thankfully my brother knew where to take her - thanks to Mike's adventures - @ 2am for an IV and benadryl injection!! We saw the ped on Friday - by then both of Elyse's eyes were swollen - he agreed it looked allergic - probably not food as it was just her eyes - we are guessing it was perhaps soap or detergent or something environmental at the motel she reacted to - who knows?? Note to self: next year bring own Benadryl!

Had a little birthday party here yesterday - invited 3 little friends over - I had to referee a bit - but it went okay - we had pizza and cake and a mini "treasure hunt". Elyse has lots of new "Dora the Explorer" toys and was thrilled to blow out her candles. She potty trained herself about a month ago and keeps asking for a "big girl bed" - my baby is growing up!
Grandma and grandpa came for dinner last night - grandma loves buying clothes (6 grandkids- she's the only girl!) and girly presents for a change!

It's back on track this week - I am heading out to the dentist - I'm sure I'll be scolded for not flossing enough! Oh Well!

Love,

Mary

WOW! Mary, sounds like you had quite the weekend! Poor Elyse...hope she is doing better now. Hotels always seem dusty or musty to me...I can easily see her reacting to something there (and this from someone who does NOT keep an immaculate house).

Enjoy the respite with the kids back to school...Christmas break will be here before you know it!

Sounds just like me Mary! My sister's birthday was last Wednesday, my nephew (thirteen) on Saturday, and my niece (six) on Sunday! Very busy weekend!

Hugs,
Peg

Morning Mary,

I just read your post and I am now exhausted.

It sounds like something to do with the hotel for Elyse. It just seems they grow up so very fast. Garbriel just had his first birthday last week and I so wish we could have been in England for it but they are sending pictures to us.

Take care and great to see you back.

Maggie

Mary,
I just read something in Living Without magazine about allergy-free hotels. I just glanced at it but if your interested I can read the article and get back to you.
