carbonated beverages?

Post by marty »

I have just started the gluten free, dairy free, beans free, soy free, any enjoyment free  diet. But, will be so worth it if I feel better! I was wondering if anyone knew if carbonation has negative affects on gas/bloating, etc. I understand you are not supposed to have sugar/artificial sweeteners. But, I was wondering about bubbly water (Perrier) or sparkling vitamin waters?
Thanks!

I have had carbonated water, and it has not bothered me. I stay away from anything extra added to the water, such as sweetener or vitamins etc.
But everyone is different and you may find the vitamin water is okay. If you keep a daily food and symptom log it can help you identify food that you are reacting to and foods that are okay.

I agree, carbonation never seemed to bother me.

I love fizzy water and it has never caused any bloating. But I never liked the price or the carbon footprint from the packaging. Recently I purchased a Sodastream (used a coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond). It comes with a CO2 canister that is reusable - turn them in at retailers that sell Sodastream, like Target, Macy's Williams Sonoma, BB and B. The fizzy water is very refreshing and crisp. You can add a squeeze if citrus or a splash of your favorite juice.

Mary Beth,

That is a great idea, what size of soda stream did you purchase?

Thanks,

Not sure how to answer that - I only saw one size available - holds one canister and makes one liter of fizzy water. It cost around $100 with the coupon.

Mary Beth,

Thanks for your reply,

You are right there is only one size, and there are different models with varying features.
