New protein discovered in Crohn's disease

Post by Zizzle »

But I have no idea what implications this has for MC or for anyone!

The team discovered that levels of Pellino3 are dramatically reduced in Crohn’s disease patients.

It will now use the protein as a basis for new diagnostic for Crohn’s and as a target in designing drugs to treat the illness.

I don't understand why they think that they have made a great discovery. They say, "It will now use the protein as a basis for new diagnostic for Crohn’s and as a target in designing drugs to treat the illness." I can easily see how it might be used as a diagnostic tool, but is there any evidence that the protein is actually involved in the inflammatory process? Why would they think that a drug (supposedly to boost the level) would have a positive effect for treating Crohn's? This could turn out to be the "cholesterol" of Crohn's disease.

Thanks for the link.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
