Hi Carol - when you say test veggies, it somewhat confuses me. I generally eat cooked frozen veggies (california blend of cauliflower, carrots and broccoli) or canned carrots or green beans. That's it. I do not eat any salads because I have not had any normal BM's yet.

I have done quite a bit of reading here, and know that many of us have a problem with sugars. I don't bake very often, but even when I do I don't believe sugar is even an ingredient in the types of "treats" I do make. I don't eat anything knowingly that has sugar. Even before MC, I didn't eat sweets very often. I'd buy a candy bar maybe once every few months, and often not even finish that. So, staying away from sugars has not been a problem for me. The foods that were my favorite were fruits. Would that fall into the category as "sugar"?

It's strange how last week for several days I thought things were coming around, but then I reverted back to WD with shredded foods again. Still not often during the day.

Well Paula, at least you are doing better then you were over a year ago! I also don't have normans very often, but I don't worry about it unless it gets to the point where I am going more often again. Then I go back to a more plain meat/rice diet. I know it's frustrating, but it is what it is. These are the cards we have been dealt ( sigh).

Yes, fruits are "sugar". Fructose and sorbitol are the worst offenders for me. If I eat too much, I react within 2 hours. i miss fruit :(

Hi Paula,

Regarding wheat in skin care products and toothpaste, etc., I've stayed clear of them for a long time. Once, early on in my MC recovery, I had bought a body moisturizer on my friend's recommendation. Well, I had a huge reaction, with intense nausea as the main symptom. When I read the list of ingredients, I realized that it contained wheat germ, so from that day on, I made sure that any product I use is "clean".

As for veggies, I'm very reactive to carrots, so it might be possible that you're reactive to one or more of the veggies in the mix you use. Perhaps you can stay clear of veggies for a few days and see if there is any improvement, and then introduce them back one at the time. The only veggies I eat are broccoli, cauliflower and yellow squash - all very well cooked. There are days when I don't eat any at all, as I know meat gives me the nutrition my body requires.

I can sooo relate to the disappointment you felt when the improvements didn't "stick". It has happened to me countless times. Sometimes I think that for some of us, enough time is the only true healer. I do feel that I'm gradually, step by step, coming out of the "MC fog". I'm doing quite well and try not to stress too much about Norman, as it seems to just make things worse. As long as I don't have WD, I'm satisfied. It helps when I stay focused on all the positive things in my life, such as yoga, my grand children, etc. I just got my first assignment as a yoga teacher, which I'm extremely excited about :). Thanks for asking about me, one of these days I will try to write a better update, as it has been a long time since my last one.

Hi Paula, I test vegetables the same way I tested anything else. I stick to my baseline diet of safe foods for 3 days and the only thing I do differently is have 1 small serving of the food I am testing. I do that for 3 consecutive days and if I have no reaction then I consider it safe. I go back to my baseline diet for one day or two and then test another food. If you haven't tested each vegetable in your mix one at a time you might want to.

Did that clear up the confusion I created?

Hi Paula,

It seems that you are able to tolerate quite a lot. Bummer about the rice...

What I found out is that one can test negative but still react. For example, I tested negative on almonds. Yesterday, I ate some almonds, not in excess. This morning I went twice, had cramps and nausea all day. I think nuts are just too harsh for my system even if I tested negative. I can have almond milk with no problems.

So, as everyone has already stated, we have to individually test what works for each one of us.
