Anyone ever experience floating D?
Hi guys,
Fortunately, I see my GI at Shands (UF) tomorrow. I'm usually upset when I have D at all. Now I'd be relieved if the D would sink. I've been on Entocort for less than a week. I was going to begin Entocort sooner but I had to hold off for my pill cam.
Last Sun. I tested at a walk-in clinic for C.Diff, E.Coli, H.Pylori, O&P, etc. All results came back negative.
Is floating D normal with MC or inflammation?
Should it decrease with Entocort use over time?
I'd be relieved to hear if anyone else has ever experienced similar D?
This is a first for me noticing it on an on-going basis, approx. 1 month. Thanks in advance for whatever support you can provide, as always it's much appreciated!

Yes, it's very common with celiac disease, and other IBDs. It can be due to gluten in the diet, or entrapped gas (air) in the stool. It's not particularly rare, even for people who have supposedly normal digestion and normal stools, because diet can affect the specific gravity (density) of stools. I definitely had that problem whenever I was reacting, and I've had it happen when I was not reacting.Marie wrote:Is floating D normal with MC or inflammation?

I have no idea whether Entocort will affect it. Hopefully someone who has some experience with that combination will offer their insight.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Marie,
I have just come to acceptance that when it comes to how poo looks, it is, (forgive me) a crapshoot. If I eat beets, purplish poo. If I eat lots of greens, or drink red wine, dark, loose poo. Sometimes, "normal" for no reason I can identify related to what I do or don't do.
I just choose not to obsess about how it looks, chalking that up to what I eat on any given day. I care much more about being able to anticipate when I need to be close to a bathroom, which I now can. I figure, the more I try to measure myself against some elusive standard of what is "normal," the more I will drive myself crazy, and that will make things worse.
I've been following some of your posts. I hope you can find a way to relax about some of this stuff, because I get the sense that your stress level about it, and some of the auxiliary treatments you've been seeking out, are aggravating things for you.

Had it but not so much anymore. When I first started modifying my diet. Maybe because at first I wasn't catching everything. I started with gluten and dairy then two months later eliminated eggs and soy. My Norman's are unpredictable.

Thanks to those of you giving support; it's genuinely heartwarming.
My stress level has been exacerbated this past summer because of my incidence with C.Diff. MC alone stinks pun intended . MC + C.Diff= unthinkable. It will take time to mentally get over that doozie, and physically too: calming post-infection inflammation. I hope none of you ever experience it, but if you do I'm here for you. I'm glad it is behind me and I can move forward now.
I was pleased with my appointment today. My GI is booked out until December, but when I called and said I felt I needed to be seen, I was squeezed in this week. My GI is compassionate and reassuring which helps put me at ease. She always asks about my kids and enjoys pictures of them. It's nice to have someone willing to emotionally invest herself; not every doctor looks beyond medical labs and empirical scientific data. I feel fortunate.
Again, I appreciate you taking time to share so I feel less alone with MC.

When I was on Entocort I had normals for months on end; I was taking only one pill. I'm now taking DAO, Betaine HCl and generic Allegra. Poos sometimes start perfectly normal and then - SPLAT!; it's D. There is no rhyme or reason; my diet has very little variation. It's the worst at bedtime; very odd. I'm thinking about tossing in the towel and just restarting the Entocort.
I have to say though that the gas is almost gone now that I rarely eat most fruits. There seems to be a fructose intolerance going on too. I rarely have the floats but I know what you mean! They seem meaningless to me.

Also have sleep apnea
Never had the floats issue until post C.Diff, so it's new to me.
Linda, I do agree that it has to do with fat malabsorption issues. Not sure how to make it stop though since I don't eat a high fat diet.
Mzh, I also took DAO and Betaine HCl. I'm keeping my supplements down to a multivitamin since I'm having D and don't want to aggravate symptoms. You're lucky that gas isn't an issue. My day starts with crazy gas and then a run to the toilet. Our days seem opposite, my issues are bad in the morning and fine by bedtime. Entocort worked well for me last year so I'm keeping hope that it'll do the same again. I hope Entocort works well again for you if you decide to use it!

Marie, I don't eat high fat either. I just never have. I didn't eat grains for 2 months to heal the leaky gut, then I started with Teff and added buckwheat. I only eat teff/buckwheat bread or muffins, and meat and a little nut butter (home made), and egg free macaroons right now, and it has worked and the floats have stopped, as well as the fat malabsorption....but it's taken over 6 months to get to this point. It is so much detective work.
I also take allegra, and that helps with the histamines.

Marie, I spoke too soon and had the gas from h$ll today. No reason I could discern. I gave in and took one Entocort that was hanging around since last January when I stopped b/c I was hopelessly constipated. We're planning a cross-country RV trip and I don't want to have to wonder too much what my bowels are going to surprise me with. I'll see if one a day helps. Got to get a new scrip!
