Relapse or Stomach Bug?

Post by JessesMom »

Hi everyone. I'm back unfortunately.
So a brief overview of whats going on...
To make this as short as possible. We adopted a new dog - a lab mix. We took the paperwork to our apartments office to get approval and they took our paper work & $300 deposit and said enjoy your pet. So we went home happy with our new addition only to receive a call the next day saying the dog was TWO POUNDS over the weight limit and we either had to get rid of her or be evicted. Dogs are family to us so 'getting rid' of her is not an option. So we had to start apartment hunting. I'm was/am completely stressed to the max. That was a few days ago and as of yesterday we found a new apt to move to and we got approved to move in Sept 1st.
But as of yesterday morning I had complete watery D two times in an hour and then I took Pepto 4 times that day in addition to Immodium so I made it through the rest of the day without D but I was feeling sick to my stomach. A little extra information I have been on tapering Entocort dosage since March but as of 2 weeks ago I weaned my self off of it, before that I was taking it only once a week for some time until I was ready to get my self off of it. Up until yesterday I was having completely formed bowel movements with no upset stomach. I made my decision to get off of it due to having dizzy vertigo spells and thought that might be the cause. I do have an MRI Monday to made sure there are no neurological issues causing the dizziness. But I woke up today feeling 'decent' but as the day wore on I started feeling more and more nauseous. I ate a plain potato & small package of tuna with a glass of water (as these have always been my safe foods) for lunch hoping that would make me feel better but boy was I wrong. About an hour ago the nausea got so bad that I started dry heaving and it progressed to me throwing up about 8 times, although there isn't much to throw up anyways (sorry if tmi  ) and now I've had watery D two more times.
So ultimately my question is does this sound like a result of me going off the Entocort or a stomach bug? Throwing up was never one of my symptoms of MC before so that's why I wonder... I cant even keep water down.
I know that Entocort takes about 8 weeks to get out of your system all the way. But I thought if you were going to relapse that the symptoms would come on a little more slowly? Because like I said the bowel movements have been fully formed up until yesterday. I am still gluten free, haven't changed my diet since weaning off Entocort. I know other members have said that when they were weaning off it that they were aware of what their 'trigger foods' were as they would get sick after eating certain things because the Entocort dosage wasn't strong enough to mask the results of that food anymore. But I never had any of that. I've been eating all my normal foods excluding gluten with no problems.
So to make a long story short I'm freaking out. I feel so sick and I can't even drink water  I'm so tempted to run back to the Entocort to make this go away - not that I could keep it down at this point.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
As always this is the only place I can trust to come to when I have so many questions..

That sounds like a stomach bug to me. There's a nasty one going around, I hear. Stay hydrated.

It sounds like something I experiencd a few months ago, a combination of stress and food I shouldn't have eaten. I was throwing up and major D. Stress can wreak havoc with us and I think lowers our immune system and we are more likely to get sick. That's just my opinion based upon past experience.

Enjoy your new pup and your new home.

I agree with Suze and Sheila. It sounds like a virus possibly made worse by stress.

That said, a stomach/intestinal virus causes intestinal inflammation, so if you can't seem to shake it after a few days, you may need to use Entocort to get back on track with your recovery. I hope it won't be necessary, but keep that in mind if the symptoms persist too long.

When we have a virus of that type, we automatically become lactose intolerant, so be sure that you avoid dairy products until it's past (in case you haven't already been avoiding dairy).

I hope you feel better soon.

I don't know if you're intolerant to soy, but most tuna has soy in it. It's been several years since I've bought it, but I think the ones without soy are called "supreme" (with a price to match). Even the ones that are packed in water can contain soy if they state "vegetable broth" as one of the ingredients.

I hope you begin to feel better soon.

I agree...sounds like a stomach bug and a real nasty one at that! I hope you feel better soon.

As for tuna, I found some at Kroger that only had tuna and sea salt. I was sooo excited!! Now I have something new to eat! I think it was Wild Planet. But what kind of mayo to mix it with...that's a whole other problem. Can't eat it by itself. (sigh)

Feel better!
