SO Delicious contains carrageean. It is a source of MSG. It can cause an immune reaction.

I make my own coconut milk. There are many easy recipes online to make your own. Just search the internet or pinterest.

Thank you, Linda.

My husband had bought a qt. of it & made gluten-free pancakes.

Would carrageean cause D?

I guess my husband will be finishing the qt. when he makes waffles for himself.

Due to my MS, I am unable to do anything in the kitchen. You wouldn't happen to know of a good brand canned coconut milk, would you?

Yes, it can cause D :

"Carrageenan contains chemicals that may decrease stomach and intestinal secretions. Large amounts of carrageenan seem to pull water into the intestine, and this may explain why it is tried as a laxative.".

I use GOYA canned coconut milk because it doesn't have gums or thickeners added. You just need to read the labels carefully before purchasing.

I have not found a processed coconut milk that is clean, so this is the recipe I use:

http://wholenewmom.com/whole-new-budget ... -improved/

I use it as a coffee creamer and in baking/cooking recipes. You may want to strain it through cheesecloth, but I don't mind a little pulp.

Here is more I found on carrageenan....oh my....

Why is carrageenan dangerous? Here is what a number of doctors and health researchers have to say.

Per Dr. Ray Peat, PhD, It has been found to cause colitis(inflammation of the large intestine/colon) and anaphylaxis (life threatening allergic reaction) in humans.

Dr. Andrew Weil says, “Carrageenan can cause ulcerations and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.”

Dr. Russell Blaylock in his book “Health and Nutrition Secrets that can save your life” Pg. 196 writes "Carrageenan is a complex polysaccaride made from seaweed and is used as a binding agent. Experimentally carrageenan is used as an agent to induce, intense inflammation in experimental animals. A recent study found that when carrageenan was injected in animals along with a cancer causing chemical, tumors appeared more rapidly…than in control animals injected with the carcinogen alone. The same was seen when human breast cancers were implanted in animals along with carrageenan. The combination made the tumors grow faster and spread more rapidly than in control animals. As a result carrageenan is classified as a tumor promoter.” Dr Blaylock named carrageenan as an additive that may contain MSG.

Thank you, Jean.

It really would be so much easier to buy coconut milk, rather than make it, esp. with the way my hands don't want to cooperate with me.

If you have a Trader Joes, their brand of light coconut milk also is additive free. I use it all the time and love my rice cooked in it!

Now I'm concerned. I drink coconut milk and almond milk made with carageenan nearly every day. I think some people tolerate it better than others, but on the "causes inflammation" scale, is it really a huge contributor?

Linda, can you give us your reference for this?:

Zizzle...it was from this blog:

http://blog.charisholisticcenter.com/20 ... itive.aspx

And I had read this interview:

http://www.naturalnews.com/035555_Russe ... oxins.html

Since carrageenan is a newer additive, I don't think they know for certain, but suspect its toxicity. To me, if it falls in the MSG category (which is where I first read about it, in my MRT lab results booklet) I think it highly likely it is dangerous to our body.
