Hi,
I have been on entocort 12 days, and the D and pain are gone. Unfortunately, now I am constipated. I don't know what to do? I am traveling right now, but have been able to make all my own food, and have been diligent with my diet. I wish I could go home, but that is just not possible right now.
Any and all advice would be appreciated, as I am very uncomfortable, and to be honest a bit frightened by such a big change.
Warmly,
Lori
Help please

Hi Lori,
When constipation symptoms develop, that's a sign that it's time to reduce the dosage of Entocort.
When members here are tapering off their Entocort treatment, they use that signal (constipation) to tell them when it's time to take the next step down in the dosage.
Since you reached that point in only 12 days, that suggests that you may be especially sensitive to budesonide, and you may not have needed a full dose to begin with. Therefore, if dropping to 6 mg per day doesn't help, you may need to reduce the dose to 3 mg per day.
In fact, if I were in your situation, and the C was very uncomfortable, I would probably immediately drop the dosage to 3 mg per day for a day or so (until the C resolves), and then return to 6 mg per day. If the C returned, then I would know that I needed to consider 3 mp per day as my "normal" max dose. We have a few members who have never been able to take more than 3 mg of budesonide without experiencing overdose symptoms.
Good luck with this, and keep us posted.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thank you so much for your quick help. Unfortunately, I already took my dose today, but I will cut it down tomorrow to 3mg. I do feel lucky that relief came so quickly, but I should have realized and trusted my body's message right away. Being so caught up and blindly trusting, in the medical establishment for so many years is a hard change. I am learning...
Warmly,
Lori
