Hi Monique,

No, apparently I have no issues with histamine foods....though lunchmeat is not something I plan on eating much of...just every now and then. Going to try tuna next. Found some soy free. I've always bought Ener-G's brown rice bread. Wasn't too wild about it at first but now I like it if toasted. I'm going to buy Udi's next as I love their products so much. Bread's got to be better....looks like bigger slices too.

Hope you are feeling better! I made a new casserole last night....being brave....my first GF casserole....turned out very good and had no issues. Hubby liked it too. It had onions, bellpepper and Imagine GF tomato soup in it. Can't believe I got off unscathed with that one...lol!

Hugs back at ya!

PS: My birthday is in a couple of months and already getting my book list together for an amazon order...something hubby can get me for my b-day. So look forward to getting your book then!! I hear I need to have a dictionary close by?

Hey Terri,

I'll venture to say that you don't have histamine issues because you take Elavil. I am certain of it. Elavil is the only thing that calms down my histamine issues. When I stop taking it (which I tried a couple of times) all hell breaks loose and I have to go back on it. And you take 25 mg. I take 10 or 15 sometimes...

Great that you can eat more stuff. I never eliminated onions because I don't know how to cook without them or garlic  but I do adhere to a histamine list that Jean posted and it does help. Casserole? sounds yummy.

I am better today. I'll never try eggplant for another century, for sure.

No, you won't need a dictionary to read me if you went beyond 8th grade  . I wrote it in English, silly girl! (Not in any of my other linguistic repertoire---I am after all a polyglot, right???)

Hugs

You are right on target, Monique. In fact, SINEQUAN (doxepin hydrochloride) and Elavil (amitriptyline) are the two most powerful antihistamines known to medical science. Believe it or not, Elavil is about 800 times more potent than diphenhydramine hydrochloride, otherwise known as Benadryl.

And doxepin hydrochloride is about 4 times more potent than amitriptyline hydrochloride, so that makes it about 3,200 times more powerful than Benadryl. So it's no wonder that the tricyclic antidepressants can have a powerful effect on mast cell issues (and of course, MC).

Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Still blown away by that fact, Tex. Doctor had never mentioned that to me...but guess he never needed to 20 years ago as he prescribed it for my chronic headaches and insomnia. Just said it was an anti-depressant. No longer works for those but glad the powerful antihistamine in it still does! Apparently as my diet is high in histamines. I'll never get off this drug! But you put me on a beta blocker it'll override the Elavil and I will have D all over again. Gluten and Beta blockers....never again!!!

Glad you are better Monique! My casserole was Hillbilly...my grandma always made it when we were kids. It has ground beef, corn, onion, bellpepper, tomato soup, GF pasta and American cheese slices (I put cheese on half of it so hubby can have it with the cheese). I don't dare tempt cheese as you know. I honestly don't think I would react to small amounts of dairy but will stay away since it's so inflammatory. But I sure could eat a huge bowl of Dreyers Ice Cream right now with this awful heat. Miss my ice cream the most!

Terri,

See, the Master has spoken---you don't have histamine issues because you are under the influence (!!) of elavil!

We can't have ice cream but I made last night banana ice cream. It was, unbelievably yummy. Try it. Freeze a sliced ripe banana. Put in a food processor (probably a blender will do too) Add almond milk (like 1/4 cup I think). I added shredded coconut, or vanilla. Add frozen banana. Run it to make it like soft ice cream. Voila! I swear it was better than the real thing...

Can you do fruit and/or sugar Terri? Sorbet makes a great substitute for ice cream on a hot day ( I don't do well with it though)

Monique...I'm going to have to try that...sounds very good!! Thanks for sharing!

Leah...I'm doing much better with sugar. Haven't braved the fruit except for a banana. Not much of a fruit person. I did get some Sorbet at a restaurant a few months ago and didn't have any issues. Didn't care for it though. Do you know if sherbert is okay to eat? Need to look up what is in that stuff...can't remember.

Okay...just looked up sherbert...big no no! Now I know.

yeah, the big difference between sorbet and sherbet is dairy.
I like hagan daz raspberry or mango sorbet, but because I have such issues with fruit, I haven't been eating it.
