I was told I would be put on synthroid after my thyroid is removed. I've been doing lots of reading but as of now, I still have a very rudimentary understanding of it all. Reading the debate on the Stop the Thyroid Madness website between synthetic and natural, I am very concerned because the doctors will want to use the synthetic and my understanding is so limited I wouldn't be able to explain it.
If the synthetic is only T4 will that cause a problem? (Not even sure if I am correct on that or not). Is it best to try it and if they fatigue doesn't improve then bring up alternatives?

Hi Deb,
I was on Levothyroxine (synthroid) and then Armour and reacted bad to both. Thyroid meds were preventing my MC from obtaining remission. I've been fortunate to have an endo who treats by symptoms. I am currently taking a T4 only hypoallergenic med called Tirosint and slowly titrating up to an optimal dosage. This process can take a while and remember you have to be your own advocate. The last time I went to see my endo, I met with the PA first and she claimed my levels were within range and the doctor wouldn't increase my dosage even tho I was still taking long naps in the afternoon. Well, when the dr came into the room and asked how I was feeling I told him I needed a increase and he did just that. Good luck Deb.

Thanks Linda, when you say reacted bad, what do you mean? Thyroid related or MC related?

Actually both. Just couldn't shake the daily diarrhea no matter what I removed from my diet and I would do wide swings between hypo and hyper. I have Hashimoto's disease and can tell when I'm suffering from an antibody attack. It's time for another blood draw and I'm curious what my free T's read. I like to have those two in the upper range of normal and my TSH as close to 1 as possible. That seems to be where I feel my best.
