I told them my TSH would be normal

Post by DebE13 »

I don't think I will be able to deal with more doctors that don't listen. Today is day twelve until my thyroidectomy and it's twelve days too many. I just got home from moving my son off to college and again, all I could think about was how crappy I felt. A few days prior I called my endo asking if there was anything I could take to help with the fatigue/brain fog, etc. I explained that I am having difficulty working because I can't concentrate and my short term memory is crap. I come home and routinely take a three hour nap after work before bed, then go to bed. The sleep isn't even refreshing. They insisted I get labs done again. I guaranteed my TSH would come back normal. I got the labs. I got a call they are normal and my endo and surgeon are recommending a referral to rheumatologist. Done that already years back when I first complained and nothing shows up except fibromyalgia.
I was hoping since I will be on thyroid meds in twelve days they'd maybe put me on some early . I'm figuring, what the hell, the worst it can do is help. I realize I am not a doctor and there are many things I don't understand and I should have just kept my mouth shut and put up with it. At least I wouldn't be loathing them all right now. But it doesn't make sense to me that in the midst of a major surgery (at least I think it is, they all seem to think it's a piece of cake) that I wouldn't be thrown into another specialty when there is going to be a big change so soon. AND you generally can't get in to see a specialist for at least a month. Do they really think that would be a good time to evaluate me? Plus, I am going to be recovering for a bit. Wouldn't it have been better to say Deb, we think you should just wait and see how you feel in the months after the surgery, then proceed??? I told them I will wait for now. Can this be so rare? Arhhhh

Wow Deb, I just posted a similar link. What timing. It does apply to me and now scares me A LOT. Thanks for thinking of me. However, I now have some issues caused by the fine needle aspiration biopsy I just had. The problems ONLY started AFTER. I now feel a pressure in my neck that doesn't go away. It feels like someone is lightly choking me- very bothersome. I feel like I am getting a sore throat but am not sick and have discomfort swallowing. If I talk for too long, my voice becomes hoarse and hurts.

I tend to lean toward conspiracy theories and I wonder if these procedures encourage the removal. But to ignore it now with all of my other issues that have been in full force since 2011, may be dumb on my part not to. It's also hard to ignore the word cancer. It may not grow and spread but it could. Cancer spreading to the lymph nodes is always a scary thing. I've read many wha- la stories in which the removal was like a day and night improvement. I'm hoping I'm one of those people but I have the little voice In my head saying, you are never the lucky one." Right now I think I am going to turn down the radioactive iodine treatment unless they can give me a really good reason. I need to know more specifics and that will only come after the surgery. And now I don't know if I'm making a huge mistake by having it.

Hi Deb,

Don't give up too soon on Tex's B's. There is discussion on the peripheral neuropathy boards and the fibromyalgia boards that they could take up to 6 months. My experience is that I took them and took them and took them and didn't think they were doing anything then one day I awoke and my mind was "clear". It was really dramatic. It was like night and day. Once my mind "cleared" it has stayed that way.

Keep an eye on your ferritin levels also. My experience was that getting my score up to the 40's also made a difference brain wise.

Don't get discouraged. My brain issues were really severe for like a friggin year so much so that it seemed like I had a different disease from most on this board.

Keep us posted on your surgery, Brandy

Haha, thanks Brandy. Ive been taking the B's for about a month and havent noticed a thing. I am actually getting worse but i believe it is because of everything else going on. I havent taken it the past two days because of the surgery on the 10th. I didnt want to explain why and the dosage since it is the one Tex posted for the non rx.metanx. i am tired of them looking at me like i am nuts. Although, my doctor initially scolded me for the dose of vit D i was taking asking why so much. After my blood test came back she told me to keep taking it

I know what you mean feeling like your disease is different. Thanks for the words of encouragement and reminder that again, this will take time to manage.

Brandy, looking into my labs last night I found my ferritin to be at 15. I've stopped the B's right now but will start taking them again after the surgery. I'm amazed at how "normal" can be such a wide range for each individual. And to think, I used to just listen to the nurse say "all your numbers are good" and hang up the phone. Now I want to see them on paper.

Thanks again.
