My husband landed in the hospital about 7 years ago with diverticulitis. It wasn't bad enough for surgery and he modified his diet extremely! But has gone HIGH fiber. No seeds, nuts, fresh fruits (with skin) and no fresh veggies. Lettuce and spinach are really bad for people with diverticulitis as they slip in to the "pockets" and "ferment" and cause infection.. as do seeds and "peels". He has FiberOne every evening as "dessert".

I have added some fiber to my diet as I have added the Entocort EC. Entocort has been a miracle for me and I hope it continues to be

Gee Tex, will we have to make the title even longer now? Discussion and Support Forum for Collagenous Colitis, Lymphocytic Colitis, Microscopic Colitis, Diverticular Colitis, and Related Issues?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Interesting sites Wayne that lead you in many other directions. I have diverticulosis, as have most people in western countries over 45 years of age. Had a problem a few years back with an abcess forming in one of the pockets. Antibiotics settled it down without the need for surgery.

I am currently on a low residue diet with very little fruit and vegs available to me. I have found that I am becoming sensitive to more and more foods, especially in that line. All the lovely salads that I used to enjoy now cause me problems. Leafy green vegs the same. Olives are out as well, even the 2 I ate a couple of weeks ago gave me hell. Think they may have contributed to my latest flare which still has not settled down. I have started on Entocort 6mg per day. The stone fruit season is just starting here and I think I will have to wear a mask or something so that I don't get the beautiful aromas from them. They really upset the system, especially mangos which I love & used to hang out for each year.

Have appointment to see new GI Doc on 6th Jan. Really miss my old doc after nearly 30 years but I expect he has a right to retire. Saw surgeon again last Tuesday and he says I have to get the colitis under control before he does anything else.

Love

Liz

Hi Liz,

It's kind of a "catch 22" situation, which makes it pretty hard to win.

Love,
