I appreciate everyone's patience since I'm fixated on thyroid more than MC lately......
I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and I was preparing my questions so I don't get spacey and miss my topics I want to discuss. From my first appointment in June to my last one at the end of August, I gained 24 pounds!! I've complained before of dropping weight and baggy pants but I don't know where this came from or where it's at. I remain a 30' x 30' jean size so I didn't notice. Should I be concerned?
I'm wondering if it has been too much couch time and too many Lara bars. It doesn't seem quite right though because I am not hungry at all and have a full feeling that seems like it will turn into a belly ache if I eat. Sometimes it does and sometimes not.
Is dosing based on weight or numbers? I have no idea how this works, should I request one brand over another? I've read the problems people have finding the correct balance in their dose. Are there any guidelines or is that up to the doc? Looking over my numbers it seems that my T3 is towards the low end of normal and my T4 is more towards the high end. I'm concerned about the sudden weight gain and don't want it to continue. I'd like to put my sneakers on and take a hike but I'd probably get a block down the road and have to call my hubby for a ride home. It's that bad.

Hi Deb,
Your weight gain suggests hypothyroidism, but your test results say no.
After the surgery, your TSH should climb (unless/until you start taking a thyroid supplement). Your doctor will select the initial dosage, and then the dosage will be adjusted based on your subsequent test results, but there will be opportunities for discussions of how you are feeling, along the way. I doubt that your weight will be considered for the dosing decisions.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks Tex, I'm finding out again that little is explained however, I shouldn't jump to criticize yet. My appointment s today so maybe I will get lots of information. Although, I'm chuckling as I write this because it's not likely.
I've said it many times and I will say it again.....this website has saved my life and thought me how to be a self advocate (hopefully not so rough around the edges anymore).
