Pepto for Two Weeks

Post by terre »

Just an update that I've been on the Pepto treatment plan for two weeks and hope I can make it for the next six.

So far no "Normans", but what has been nice is that the urgency to go has subsided and that is such a great feeling...and the BM's are not explosive. I even think I feel better....would that be a mental thing? Also seem to be hungry more often.

Out of the 8 caplets a day for these two weeks, I have missed 5 doses (accidentally) and so far no ringing in the ears above what I normally have. I did have a nauseous day yesterday, but don't know what the cause was.

Hopefully, I will get Enterolab results back next week and narrow down which foods I am reacting to....then to adjust my diet accordingly.

I have been craving sweets - are there any prepackaged items (from grocery / health food store) that anyone has found safe to eat?

Thank you,
Terre

What is "safe" for one person is not good for another. I can have a square or two of dark chocolate. I can also eat about 10 jelly Bellies at a time ( I really make them last!). Pamela's makes small chocolate cookies that i can eat two of at a time..... but i never would have eaten that stuff while i was still on drugs. Since Pepto is sweet, it might be making you crave sweets. Another thing that makes one crave sweets is lack of sleep.

Good luck Terre

Leah, thanks for sharing....where do you get Pamela's? Also, I stopped in at a new little bakery and she said she will have some GF items this Thursday. Would you trust eating something from a bakery that they claim is GF?

If you are really reactive to Gluten, then you shouldn't buy GF products from a bakery that also bakes gluten products. Flour is everywhere, on everything.

I get Pamela's stuff in many stores. Whole Foods has it, but so does two other local groceries. many items from Pamela's however has other no no ingredients, so read carefully. The xantham gum in most GF baked products can cause intestinal distress though. That's why I didn't eat any of it until after I was off meds.

Hi Terre,
We can feel hungry all the time when our meals go straight through us not stopping long enough to absorb the minerals and vitamins we need. It is why we feel fatigued a lot too.
When your flare up eases up this will all get improve.
I don't buy many store bought items but I have found CHEX gluten free cereal is safe for me and I also enjoy the cans of gluten free chicken soups at the grocery store, and UDI gluten free bread has never given me trouble. Good luck and let us know what your Entrolab results turn up.

Thanks Leah and Cory, I'll heed your advice.

I'm heard on several posts about CHEX GF cereal, that's on my list to purchase.

As far as UDI's, I've heard GF bread is like eating cardboard, any truth to that?

Ha Ha - The bread does seem more digestible toasted. I toast it in a toaster oven. ~C

Definitely toast it! If I get the cinnamon raisin, it tastes great with coconut oil. If I use the white bread, I usually spread almond butter and a little jam on it or just some pumpkin or apple butter.
