Hydrocodone

Feel like I got hit by a bus- is the Tylenol/hydrocodone Rx MC safe. I couldn't find any references to it in a general search. I refused all pain meds after the surgery but now I'm wondering if I should take something to take the edge off. If this could cause possible issues obviously I would do without.

Hi Deb,

Yes, it should be safe for you. Just don't exceed the 24-hr labeled dosage, or drink any alcohol. There is a warning about a risk of possible kidney damage if acetaminophen is overdosed or mixed with alcohol, otherwise it's fine for anyone who has MC.

Thanks Joan, took one pill last night and hopefully won't have to do any more. Some of the stiffness has gone. I think a big part of the overall body pain was due to being on a ventilator/respirator....whatever they call it that breathes for you while in surgery. My abs are also getting a workout since lifting my head from a reclining position is tricky. It's like I've done a thousand sit ups since Tuesday. There's no way around it though, it just hurts to get up. I figured I would do more harm babying it trying to avoid discomfort and would prolonging healing. I have been carefully moving like I always do and it seems to have helped in loosening up a bit.

I think I dwelled too much on all the things that could go wrong and figured it would all happen to me. Not the smartest thing but I couldn't help it. Things have been going good and like all of our challenges, it will be baby steps. Being home is just plain refreshing. I have coffee in hand, my garden out the window, and cats at my feet.

I'm a little concerned about not getting any meds for six weeks. Apparently they routinely schedule radioactive iodine treatments for all patients. I'm not convinced of that and need to do more research. I've been having frequent fluttering of my heart which is not usual for me. The nurses were not concerned. It's very annoying. I meet with both my surgeon and endo next week so will have to prepare for a discussion by then.

I'm wondering if the coffee will wake my guts up. I'm not complaining, but yesterday was the first day since March 2, 2007 I haven't had D. Missed an entire day! Although, if given the choice, I would have opted for D instead of a thyroid removal.

Deb, The meds you had for the surgery (anesthetics & pain meds) can cause constipation. Drink lots of water to clear the meds out of your system.
I'm so glad you are on this end of the surgery. I hope you heal quickly!

Thanks Linda, I've been drinking lots of water and things are still a bit sleepy down there. More on the windy side but its not the bloating kind so it's not bothersome. It's kind of nice not having D control my morning activities.
