ooops, glutened myself!

Post by Leah »

Send good thoughts my way friends. I just took my husband out to dinner for his Birthday and I stupidly ordered something that came with a sauce that was made with soy sauce! As soon as it was put in front of me, I knew, but just didn't want to send it back and make them waste the food. I did my best not to eat the skin of the chicken or use the sauce, but i am sure I got a dose of it. .... Well, wish me luck!

Good thoughts coming your way. Hopefully, there will be no reaction.

Many people think soy sauce isn't a big gluten risk, because the wheat proteins are so highly hydrolyzed by the fermentation process. Let us know if you have symptoms!

Leah,
Hopefully your system is healed enough to survive a one-time, small amount and not have a set-back. I know that thought when "I've been Glutened!!"

Leah, so sorry. Hope your reaction isn't bad. BTW, there is a product called Glutenaid, to be taken either before you eat or if you think you have been glutened. I got a bottle at CVS after having been served the wrong dish at my favorite restaurant. It's supposed to aid digestion and contains three kinds of Aspergillus.

Glad it worked out okay, Leah. You never know when something will affect you. I had some hemp protein I have been staying away from, and thought--what the heck, I'm doing so well and this won't bother me if I put a little in my smoothie. MISTAKE! Won't try that again.

Leah it really is challenging going out to eat, I'm glad you recognized the risk and sounds like you were able to avoid and real problems.

I'm glad your feeling well

Hi Leah,

So sorry to hear about it but glad the results were not full blown. Went out for our anniversary at the Outer Banks to a wonderful restaurant that we go to all the time and very GF. Ordered the flounder on dirty rice - BIG Mistake. Never thought about the dirty rice having Cajun seasoning that probably was contaminated with flour to keep it from clumping. Never even thought about it at the restaurant. The next morning about 3 AM was the indicator - continual D all the next day, terrible headache and then the aches. Could hardly do the steps. Better 2 days later but I am ever more mindful now. Eating out is such a challenge and my appetite is not a large one and it seems that they give you so much food. Just turns me off.

Love, Maggie
