Apropos doctors....

Post by Lesley »

It's not just GIs.

I have written a couple of emails to my pain doc about my fall. Described it in detail, and the pain I am in. I got a return email from the nurse acknowledging that I don't want to take meds, and asking me if I wanted to see the doc, sometime in the future I guess, or make an appointment for an epidural.

Huh? do we know what happened? Do we know what the damage is? Has medicine progresses so far that he can sense what happened in my fall and what I need?
I am in acute pain and I need to drive all the way across town next week or so (long drive here) to see the doc so he can refer me for an MRI?

So I call the pain clinic. Nurse calls back and we go through the same thing. I asked if anyone could see me at the pain clinic nearer home. I make the point about being in acute pain. No reaction.
Long story short - I asked if I could PLEASE get an MRI and at the west LA facility which is 20 minutes from here, then discuss treatments.

So far no result.

Lesley, I don't know what to tell you other than keep persisting. Sometimes I think pain management staff get so used to people complaining about pain that they no longer see the urgency. I don't know if it would help to tell them that on a scale of 1-10 you are a 9.5--- or not.

Is acupuncture an option? Just a random thought.

take care. :bigbighug:

Carol, the ridiculousness was because they put me with a pain doc in east LA, which is a LONG way from where I live, even though there is a very good facility 20 minutes from here (when they are not "fixing" roads, which is never!). It took me the entire morning to get myself moved over. I have not met my new pain doc, but at least I am registered at the west hospital.

I told them that. And I am known for a very high pain threshold. I will get there I hope.
Thanks for the hug Returned with fervor!

I hope you get some kind of resolution soon, Lesley. Surely they can make things more convenient for you. It's so aggravating.
