I'm so sorry for what you're going through, Lesley. Please be even more careful, use that walker and bug the daylights out of Kaiser until they prescribe one for you. Wee-wee pads are an option for Licorice if you just can't get her outside. Take care of yourself, Lesley.

Wow, Lesley, that's quite a diagnosis. I'm not sure what they can do for you, but I think you need to see a doctor who specializes in osteoarthritis.

Licorice is a small dog, as I recall. You might be able to use pads for her.

Good luck!

I got an email from my doctor who looked at the x rays. She says it's not nearly as bad as the doctor who saw me yesterday made out. She has put in an order for a hip x ray, which wasn't done. I will get that done tomorrow. There is no pain in my thoracic area, which the doctor at urgent care was worried about. So we are going to concentrate on my pelvis, hips and legs, where the pain is concentrated.

I have been taking Licorice down using the walker, but she is not getting any exercise. She is missing it, as am I. She keeps trying to make me go out, making huffng noises at me to express her displeasure. She has also had bad bouts of diarrhea, and my carpet has been decorated. I will have to deal with it when things get better.

I can't tell you how much your support and caring has meant to me.

I'm so glad you posted an update, Lesley. I've been thinking about you and what you are going through. I'm glad you heard from your doctor so quickly and she will be taking good care of you. Does Kaiser have home help aids for situations like yours? You are incapacitated and I believe some insurance companies do offer help at home.

You might want to put pee-pee pads down for Licorice. When you see her getting into the "position" put her on the pad and when she does it in the right place, give her a treat. Perhaps a friend or neighbor would enjoy walking Licorice.

By the way, I have a great recipe for removing doggy D stains from a light colored carpet. In her last days, my pug Penny had horrible D during the night in the guest bedroom and hit most of the carpet before I got to her. It was a lot of work, but I got ALL of the stains out.

Thinking good thoughts for you, Lesley.

Sheila - I posted an update and am about to go get a hip xray to see if there is anything there.

I have pads down all over, but she did most of it during the night so I couldn't train her. And the stuff soaked in and made it way worse. The carpet here is cheap rubbish, making it difficult to get stains out. I would LOVE to have your solution for cleaning it.

Thanks Joan, Vandolyn and any others I might have left out. The support of the people on this board is beyond measure!

I am praying for you and Licorice, Lesley! I am so sorry about your fall. I hope your doctors figure out how to deal with it and how to manage your pain in a way that works for you. Just want you to know I am thinking of you and sending you positive vibes and support.

I hope you get good news, Lesley.

Carpet cleaner for stains that have set: Mix equal parts vinegar and water and work into the stain using a clean white towel. Once this is dry, sprinkle the area with baking soda. Mix together 1/4 C hydrogen peroxide with 1/2 tsp liquid soap and spread over the baking soda. Work the resulting paste into the stain, blot and let dry. Once it is completely dry, vacuum. You may have to repeat.

I couldn't find the original recipe but this one has all the right ingredients so it will work. They way I did it involved mixing everything together, foamed up like crazy, and scrubbing the stains repeatedly. I may have done it incorrectly but it worked anyway.

Good luck.

I did everything but the peroxide. I need to buy some. Without it stains remain. Yuk!

Thanks Sheila!

I am going to go to the ER tomorrow I think. The only way I will get an MRI immediately, and, since I have sensory damage on both sides of my right foot, and the pain is excruciating. Can't take it any more.
I can't take Vicoden again.

Hi Lesley,

I hope all goes well in the ER. They have all the equipment and pain medication options to give you some relief hopefully. Will you need to bring food with you?

Warmly,
Lori

I think going to the ER is the right thing to do under the circumstances. Wishing you good luck and a solution that will take care of your pain.

Lori - yes, I am taking food with me. When I was at Urgent care I got very tired and hungry, and didn't have the energy to make anything when I got back. I have a pork cutlet and a bag of potato chips. There is nothing else available for me to take right now, but that should hold me for quite a few hours.

Sheila, given the time I have to wait to get a dx I think going there is appropriate.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and your good thoughts. I will update!
