It's been a long time since I kicked Norco. I have managed to deal with the pain with nothing but Nortryptiline for pain. It hasn't been easy. It's been very tiring. Having Licorice and keeping mobile has really helped. I can move past most pain.
I thought I could do that with this last fall. For the first 4 days I pushed myself through it. Pain, but still walking independently, taking Licorice out, albeit not for the walks she is used to.
On Friday I realized that things were getting way worse, so I took myself to Urgent Care. That visit is now history.
I have appointments for an MRI and a visit to the pain management clinic, but both are scheduled for 10 days to 2 weeks away.
I think I am in a pain cycle that needs to be broken. I don't know whether there is any disk involvement and won't until I get the MRI. The pain is pretty bad, and I haven't slept for a few nights. Is it muscular? Soft tissue which is essentially muscular? No idea.
I have avoided anything stronger that tylenol. I am not sure I am doing myself a favor. I am going to take one Norco tonight to see if it helps, and if the relief holds over tomorrow. I will not go back on regular pain meds. I cannot risk it.
Breaking the cycle

Lesley,
Since your hip wasn't x-rayed, I'm wondering how you know that you don't have a broken hip, and why your health services couldn't schedule an immediate hip x-ray to check out that possibility. Just because you can walk, is no proof that you don't have a broken hip.
After a fall, my mother was able to walk, and she insisted that she was OK for almost 2 weeks. The pain became so bad that she finally had to admit that she wasn't OK, and an x-ray showed that her hip was broken.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Tex, I had the hip x-ray yesterday. Sorry. I thought I had said. No fracture.
I took the vicoden. It made me horribly nauseous and woozy, but, after a LONG time, and severe pain I slept like the dead (still getting up to pee) and am woozy and nauseous today too.
The pain has localized to my lateral, mid right thigh. I cannot bear weight on it. When I start to move some of the aches and pains come back, but they seem to be the result of abnormal walking patterns.
My leg, however, continues to ache, and I am having tingling under my foot. And all I want to do is go back to bed and sleep some more. The feeling is familiar to me. I had it most of the time to some extent while on vicoden.
I just wrote to my doc to ask if there is any way for the MRI and the visit to the pain clinic to be done immediately. I won't go to urgent care again, but I will go to the ER if I have to in order to get them to deal with this right away.
I won't go back on vicoden (it doesn't help the severe pain when ambulating anyway, nor the residual pain once seated). I could literally feel it doing a number on my gut. I had that horrible pain just below my ribs that I have suspected of being a heart attack in the past, but now know that it is my gut. I am probably going to be terribly constipated, and must deal with it right away.
Should this be a disk problem on my RIGHT side now, I can see them treating it with a right epidural. If it is a problem with the femur, the nerves on the right, or soft tissue damage (doesn't really feel like it, but I know it can mimic other damage, or be referred) I could possibly get a local shot in order to give me some relief and ability to function while it heals.
The causes of my falling still need to be addressed, but that is less urgent.
I need to get going so I can take Licorice out at least to pee.
