The Gluten Dude wrote a funny post today about his recurring dreams. Interestingly, I have the same ones -- showing up for a final exam when you never attended the class or studied, and eating gobs of gluten by accident and freaking out!! Sadly, it seems we can't even enjoy our problem foods in our sleep!!
OMG, I am not the only one!! My “eating gluten dreams” all follow the same path. I’m having a “regular” dream about “whatever” and then in that dream I grab a piece of pizza (or whatever) that everyone else is eating and take a big bite. . .and then suddenly realize what I’ve done. I go into full panic mode in the dream and spit it out and freak out. Every single time this happens, I freak out so much in the dream, that I actually PHYSICALLY WAKE MYSELF UP. So yeah, my subconscious doesn’t even get to enjoy gluten. I guess that is hypervigilance for you.
I do too.
I cannot help fantasizing about it either.
The Disney issue is VERY interesting. People have stopped inviting me to parties or get togethers. It helps THEM feel better, but makes me feel doubly punished. True, my issues are more than "simply" gluten, but still. I have tried to explain that I wold still like to be included, but to no avail.
Until doctors stand up and yell that gluten is as dangerous to a gluten sensitive person as peanuts are to a peanut allergic child this will continue.
I've had the "showing up for a final exam when you never attended the class or studied" dream on many occasions. And while I can recall 1 or 2 dreams where I noticed (in the dream) that I forgot and ate gluten, I don't recall ever freaking out about it. I do recall thinking (in those dreams) that my memory was really getting bad.

I for one never seem to dream about food. It is always people I try to avoid or climbing of big rocks at the beach. Sometimes I have these dreams like every other night. Wonder why I don't dream about food?
Leslie - I don't get invited a lot either due to my food issues. Makes me feel a lot left out. Open house this weekend when we got home at a new person on the block and it appeared that I was one of the few not invited. Live and learn.

I guess it tasted fine, but I really don't remember (it's been a while since I've had a dream of that type). I mostly remember feeling dumb.

I think most people who've attended college dream about taking an exam without preparing for it. I've dreamed that I never went to the class and can't find the classroom to take the exam! It shows how much we stressed over those exams.
Like Maggie, I don't think I dream about food, either. Maybe it's because I think about it all day long. LOL
Welcome back, Maggie!

Me too, had those can't find the classroom, never attended class. not ready for the exam, dreams.
I never dream about food, maybe because it hasn't been that hard for me to eliminate foods. I did used to dream about smoking cigarettes after I quit.
I've dreamt about eating gluten and spitting it out. At least I should have just enjoyed it.
I haven't had the exam dream but one in which I'm repeatedly late for class because I can't remember where my locker is or if I find it, I can't remember the combination. I just stand there spinning the dial.
Crazy.
I often have the same dreams in the same places, but the places are not real places that I've been before. It's like an alternate reality because I remember all the detail like you would from your childhood or a place from a different time in your life. The other day I was zoning out on the couch and my mind started wandering to one of those dream places- I had to verbalized that I didn't want to go there to make it stop. For whatever reason, it gives me an off feeling that I don't like even though they aren't really "bad" dreams.
Crazier yet.

I guess most people who have been in college or at least a school situation have those exact same exam dreams, lol. I wonder what homeschooled students who don't go to college dream about when they are adults to take the place of the exam dreams?
I have absent-mindedly taken a bite of a glutenous cookie in a dream a few times. It varies whether I realize it after I swallow or I spit it out. It doesn't wake me up, but when I wake up, I am always glad it was a dream!

When I realized how bad my dx was all I wanted was a really crusty loaf of French bread, sweet butter and cheese!!! And to follow it with Hagen Das double vanilla ice cream, and a slab of real English Cadbury's chocolate.
How about that for a fantasy?
