My husband and I were forced to get a risk policy in MN due to my having torn my ACL a year earlier and his cholesterol was higher. Our current cost is over $1200 per month. We have a high deductible ($3000 each). I called Blue Cross Blue Shield looking for a comparable policy under the newly formed MNSure. She said a comparable policy would cost us $1400 per month (we don't qualify for discounts at our income level, which isn't excessive). When I questioned her she said, "well, everyone's is going up". I told her I was already paying risk rates and didn't expect an increase. We are looking at other options as the risk insurance will no longer be available because pre-existing conditions can no longer (supposedly) come into play. I think there are going to be a lot of unhappy people out there when they see what the costs could be. Deb
If I were you I would check it all out tomorrow when the exchanges go online because, from what I understand, you can't really find out anything for sure until tomorrow when the program starts.
Also, I've seen cases where they state a price, but it is before subsidies. So you might be eligible for help with that $1400.
Good luck, I hope you find what you need at a great price.
