If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another....
Hello Friends,
A brief question to all the speculators: I have a pain in my upper abdomen, right side under my rib cage for the last few days. At first I thought I had strained a muscle but it is persevering for several days now. It is worse in the morning when I get up, made better after I eat and move around.
So I checked webmd, big pharma favorite website and plugged in my symptoms and of course, they were so accurate I nearly fell off my chair: they gave me 67 conditions to choose from, a few of them related to what we have.
Should I run to the doc and subject myself to a battery of tests in the middle of a chaotic mess in my house (kitchen destruction/construction due to water damage from a leaky faucet)?
Is this related to MC?
I don't need this right now!
Thanks, y'all!
Love,
Monique

Monique - I also get that pain, same place. My guess is that Lori is correct. The stress has caused this. However, if it persists, or if you press it, you lie on your back, press down and release suddenly, and it hurts like hell, go to the doctor.
I hope your house gets fixed and the pain goes away with it!

Maybe, especially since more than a few members have complained of a persistent pain in that area. As you noted, there are many possible causes, but at least we can rule out gallbladder disease (since it begins before eating, and diminishes after eating — exactly the opposite of typical gallbladder disease pain).Monique wrote:Is this related to MC?
The area you describe (at the far right) is where the ascending colon rolls over to become the transverse colon. If the pain is closer to center (only slightly off center), that would be where the duodenum makes a large loop around the head of the pancreas.

I would be very surprised if a doctor would be able to pinpoint the problem, unless some very obvious clues showed up, but sometimes they get lucky.
Were your liver enzymes normal at your last CBC?
Love,
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Lori, Lesley---yeah, it can be related to stress---anything can stress you out when you have MC...and I sure have had plenty of stress for the last 2-3 months. A mildew case during the wet month of August when Atlanta was under water for a whole month that caused havoc in the house followed by a solid month of cleaning and airing. Then my sister came with her husband for 2 weeks, then the current kitchen disaster which will begin next week and continue for 3 more weeks (I'll have to move to a hotel)...Stress? And I have lined up some book clubs visits and book signings at Starbucks...
Lesley, I don't have any acute pain when I lay down and press.
Tex--thanks for that diagram. I have been checking out my old anatomy books as well. That's the location of the pancreas too...Liver enzymes? well, they have been elevated since I went on mesalamine but not enough to cause a concern according to the doc. I remember him mentioning that he would get concerned if it went up to 40 values. I ain't there...I check my enzymes every 3 months.
I think if I went to the doc, he'd want an ultrasound test in the area.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Lesley,
Your pain when you have it, is it constant for several days or intermittent? Do you take pain killers for it? I haven't taken anything.
If I go to see the doc, it won't be the GI doc. I have a general practitioner that I trust more...I'll see him first. I'll wait a few days before I do anything, let's see if it goes away.
Thanks.

When I get it it's constant for a while, then it will go away and come back with no pattern to it. I ALWAYS have it constantly when I have C. I haven't tracked it so easily when I don't have C.
Mind you, now with the pain I am in from my newly ruptured disk, the old one that is so much worse since the fall, and the broken vertebra, I barely notice it. I am struggling with C, which that makes me more uncomfortable. I am struggling with terrible balance problems.
Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thread. Just rambling.
