OK, I can't just ignore this one, it's so blatant. This statement is extremely misleading:
And secondly, there are no studies based on either livestock or humans that show conclusive evidence that GMOs have anything to do with anything, let alone declining health. I am not saying that GMO products do not pose any risk for long-term health — I have no way of knowing that. I'm just pointing out that there are absolutely no studies to date that prove any of those claims. And until such proof comes along, then claims such as those are pure fiction designed to promote a dishonest agenda.
The most ridiculous part of the fake science behind that article is the fact that they are trying to convince anyone naive enough to believe them that GMO technology is somehow related to gluten sensitivity. That's absolutely ludicrous in view of the fact that there are no GMO sources of wheat anywhere in the world, in production agriculture. Shame on them for such blatant irresponsibility.
And that group pathetically calls themselves the Institute For Responsible Technology?
The article is just one more GMO diatribe disguised as pseudo-science, with no basis in fact. At least that's the way I see it. If there is actually any legitimate science hidden anywhere in it, I obviously overlooked it, because I couldn't force myself to read past the first couple of paragraphs.

Where does that claim come from? From their imagination, that's where. First off, there are no valid studies that show any increase in celiac disease since 1996. The public is now much more aware of celiac disease, simply because it has been in the headlines so often during that time frame. And when people become aware of an issue, many of them naturally discover that it applies to them. But celiac issues are not increasing anywhere nearly as fast as it appears. Instead of just ignoring their digestive issues, or taking their doctor's word that there is nothing wrong with them, they are now adopting the GF diet, and that gives the appearance of an increase in celiac issues.Animal feeding studies and experience with humans and livestock have linked GMOs with a variety of symptoms and disorders which, when carefully examined, may explain the increase in the incidence of gluten-related disorders since 1996.

They may? You bet they may, and I may win the lottery tomorrow, but the odds are pretty slim, since I haven't bought a ticket. None of the "symptoms" listed have anything to do with GMO, but they have everything to do with grains in general.GMOs may contribute to gluten-related symptoms by promoting:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Plus...how can we take anything seriously from somebody who refers to the digestive "track?" (First sentence under the Suppressed Digestive Capacity section.)
Poorly written and/or edited articles like this one always raise a red flag with me, irrespective of what I think of the science or opinions behind them.

The way I understand it the bt corn may cause tiny holes to be made in the digestive lining because it has been genetically engineered to produce its own insecticide. So when eating this corn your getting this insecticide in your food which cause the holes. We all know what holes in the gut lining do. They are not saying the wheat does it because its GMO. There is no GMO wheat.
For my money I'm staying away from GMO's and eating organic. I like my food the way God made it.

Hi Doreen,
I understand your concern, because I'm not a fan of GMO food either. But using dishonesty to promote that agenda is not acceptable. Unfortunately God also created Bacillus thuringiensis, which is the original source of this natural insecticide. It has been around for a long, long time, and it has been used for commercial production purposes (especially for organically-grown food) for at least half a century.
Therefore, if you have been eating organically-grown products, you have probably been ingesting the BT toxin all that time. But strangely, I notice that the anti-GMO crowd doesn't see anything wrong with eating the same toxins in organically-produced food. Why not? As always, it's all about money.

They are trying to make the case that GMO foods behave the same as wheat gluten, and that's intellectually dishonest, (besides being absurd), because there is absolutely no science to support that claim.
