I am the oldest of 7 kids and 2 of my siblings have Celiac sprue. I have been checked and don't have it, but was diagnosed with MC. I seem to do better if I eliminate gluten.

I have had a diagnosis for about 6 months. I was given an Rx for Lomotil and sent on my way. Since I have 2 siblings with Celiac, and I had had symptoms for 1 1/2 years. I did a trial for a month of gluten-free and had much impovement. Then I was fully tested with a diagnosis of MC.
I'm very encouraged to find this group, as it appears that food sensitivity is a big part of the problem.

Wow! Your doc was pretty conservative with his prescription. Many members use Lomotil, for occasional "help", but, of course, it's simply an anti-diarrheal, (it slows down motility) - it does nothing to suppress the inflammation that causes the D. It's a good thing that you had a working knowledge of the effects of gluten sensitivity.

Unfortunately, that's extremely difficult, because virtually all medical research is financed by the pharmaceutical companies, and they're not going to pay for research that proves that diet changes can control a disease. Welcome to our family maude....srry you have had to find us...but now that your here read as much information as you can....Some docs may seem knowledgable about mc but finding a good one is striking a gold mine. 
sticking with a gf diet certainly was a huge difference for me. I thought I was celiac but the test for cd was negative. I was dx with collagenous colitis .
