Pot head granny!
Went to get myself a marijuana license yesterday in desperation. Pain is intolerable, even at my level of tolerance. It's so FRUSTRATING! I am not very tolerant of having to be inactive. I guess it's the result of "recovering" from polio, and being told I could do anything and everything, and that I had to. I pushed and pushed.
Post serial casting? Even worse! Gym lessons - the stuff nightmares are made of! Bloomers, jumping over the horse, rope climbing; sports - playing netball, hockey, tennis. I still sweat bullets when I think of it. And pain. Always some degree of pain and being tired. According to my forged notes I had periods 2x a week, but it didn't work. I was forced to do this stuff.
I wasn't inactive. I walked, I swam (pretty well), I TRIED to play tennis. I really tried. I pushed and pushed.
Fast forward - me in a medical marijuana clinic. Oldest person there except for the doctor, who told me I wouldn't need much to relieve the pain.
Armed with letter, on to the store. Once again, OLD and clearly not exactly IN on the latest methods of pot using. Advice given - smoke it using a pipe with water. Lighter? One of the nice men sitting on the comfy couches circa 1960 donated one, and I got a free caramel for "ingestion".
I am HOPELESS at this. As a child of the 60s and a mother of kids through the 80s and 90s I have passed a roach many times, but lighting a pipe with a lighter? Burned my finger and nail. Geez! Failure.
So I ate the caramel.
I only found out today that I should have taken a tiny nibble.
Last night - flashing in and out. In an alternate universe. My whole body to big for itself and too small at ONE AND THE SAME TIME! How I took Licorice to pee is beyond me. Then I managed to get myself to bed. TV on so I was off on all the adventures possible, and kept going in and out of log like whatever - not really sleep. Up to pee (thank goodness), remembered the walker, mostly because neck up I was sort of deadened, waist down pain still screeching.
12 hours later I (once again) sort of emerged. I am STILL hung over, nauseated, right side, under ribs discomfort, shooting pains in stomach, and back PAIN!!!
I have got to find some easily accessible long matches. Or a firelighter. Or another way of doing this. Or another pain control method until this improves. I may have to take a Norco I have to find a way to relieve this pain without going into an unbearable cycle of C.

Going to give it a try Jon, but I am SO unsure of the dosage after yesterday. I don't know how to figure it out. What is the equivalent of a couple of puffs to put in my ice cream? Anyone?
Right now I have to get over the hangover. And get pain just a LEETLE bit under control. I am going to literally hang in the water. I use a flotation belt and I have the weights I use for upper arm exercise that I put under my knees and just hang there. The relief is wonderful. Not pain free, but so much better.
Water is a wonderful thing, and my access to it - SO grateful!

Leslie, I was going down a road of self pity but decided it wasn't warranted after reading your post. You made me laugh. Probably not your intent to provide giggles to some of us but my heart goes out to you. I have no suggestions but offer prayers and big hugs. I know constant pain, most likely not as severe as yours, but it can drive you mad.

Leslie, the best way to smoke it is using a vaporizer. I have smoked it on almost a nightly basis as it helps me sleep. I have also found out I have primary hyperparathyroidism and the bone aches have been horrendous. I decided last week that I was going to stop smoking it and am amazed at just how horrible I feel. I just thought it helped me sleep at night but I was wrong. At 51, I walk like a little old lady. I have an aunt that showed me how to use a vaporizer no fire needed! And it is better for your lungs.
You did give me a chuckle Leslie :) A vaporizer is the way to go, but if you just want to smoke a little, from a pipe, use one of those long lighters that are used to light candles and such. i can get them cheap at the Dollar store, but they are sold everywhere. I am not an "edible" expert, but I think most baked goods are about a bite is equal to a small puff. Good luck. I hope it works

Since I m sure that laughter is the very, very best pain reliever I am glad this story is giving my friends here, and at home a good, deep belly one.
I have already rounded up some matches Leah, but I have done one better. The VERY nice guy (married, but SO sweet!) who gave me the info is coming over tonight to help me light up. I hope, with a good looking guy lighting me up I will float away on the arms of the weed.
Lindy - next purchase is to get a vaporizer and try it that way. I am so sorry about your bone pains. I am so sympathize AND empathize, and any wort of ize you want.
Deb - yes it does, and right now I think I am borderline.

I'm glad you're not going the edible route. You are right--it's impossible to know how much you are getting. Going through water really smooths the smoke. I have never used a vaporizer, but in my 20's I had a bong that I was right fond of.
As time goes by, you will figure it out.

I knew for sure which of my neighbors would have long matches, or any kind other than the little books. I was right. I have been trying the sort I have here. I will need to go out again to get another type. The pain needs to dissipate a little. I doubt if it will be today.
Yeah, our 20s WERE different, weren't they Marliss? I didn't have a bong, but I am no weed virgin. Problem is I am one of those people who do NOT like the high feeling. I will do a lot ot avoid it, even forgoing anesthesia to get an epidural. That short pain is worth my not getting that particular feeling. Strange, but true!
Maggie - get what it PA? Weed? Honey you can get it EVERYWHERE!
BTW - I have seen Sanjay Gupte's program about Israel as the center of medical marijuana development, but yesterday a friend brought me a LONG article about the research, development and testing that is going on there. It;s amazing!

Lesley,
Your post is making me crave something I haven't done in 10 years! But maybe it'll help my rash...LOL...Hmmm.
I hope you get it figured out soon. I recall making a vaporizer from 2 liter soda bottles...

I have a hunch that Maggie was referring to getting it legally in PA.Leslie wrote:Maggie - get what it PA? Weed? Honey you can get it EVERYWHERE!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I do know that here in Ca. , medicinal marijuana has gotten very high tech. If you don't like the "high" ( the THC), then there are plants that are now grown with a very low THC and is made into a tincture that you can put into a drink. For some people, it is a life saver, for others, it doesn't work, but you might want to look into it.
Either way, I hope you find some relief soon.
