Boylan cola from Trader Joes?

Post by m »

I found a cola made from cane sugar at Trader Joes today. It's made by Boylan (sp?). Has anyone tried it? It says it has citric acid which I'm still unsure of whether I react to it or not. They also make ginger ale, black cherry soda and cream soda.'

Most citric acid in the U S is made from corn, though it's possible that they are using citric acid from citrus fruit in that drink. Unfortunately, I react to natural citric acid, (from citrus fruit), also.

I can't seem to find the companies official website so I can't ask them. I will wait until next weekend before I experiment with drinking it. At least I do okay with Virgil's Root Beer and Izze pop.

M,

Did you happen to notice the Izze soda burning going down the esophagus? That's why ah've not bought any more. Perhaps it was just some other ingredient that didn't agree with me. Virgil's RB doesn't do that quite so much (just the price! Ha!) Sure is delicious though, isn't it? Perhaps it's a stronger carbonation.

Oh, just thought of something -- does Virgil's happen to list citric acid as an ingredient? Perhaps that's it, especially combined with carbonation. I've never thought it to be a problem before, so never even thought of that.

Good luck with your treats!
yours, Luce

Lucy,

It could also have been Ginger. I've found that many "natural" colas add Ginger to give it more of the same type of taste/pep as normal colas. And Ginger does "burn".. even when in liquid. It's strange that way..
