Ran the gammit...

Post by Lesley »

2 days ago I was 6 days into C despite taking citrucel with mineral oil . Needless to say it wasn't comfortable. With my back problems I find that C really increases the pain significantly, and since I have taken NO pain meds I needed to relieve it fast.
I took my usual citrucel with mineral oil, and added a Dr. Schulze's. Nothing the day before yesterday, so I repeated. Starting yesterday I have run the gammit of every type of stool on the chart EXCEPT Norman! Thin, yellow, floaty, mucousy, tendrils...you name it!
Over 2 years post dx, and I am seriously bummed.
I am still pretty strict with my diet and continue to eat few foods. Since my accident with my back standing has been a horrible problem for me, so my range is even smaller. Meat (lamb, beef, pork (all grass fed), or white fish (not too much), a baked potato with soy free earth balance, a well cooked veg (and sometimes none of that). Coconut milk, oats either hot or Udi's granola. Or I make my own granola when I have the energy.
I eat it with papaya and mango (both long proven safe via the MRT and trial and error) if I have them.
Potato chips. And if I am too tired (way too often), that becomes my food for the day.
I like to make a large roast - easy and gives me protein for days. If I don't have that? Oatmeal and potato chips. Yes, I know that I am even more tired when I don't get real food, but I when the pain is too bad I can't stand in order to do it.

I have not made muffins, breads, or any other baked goods for months.

I am taking calcium supplements, B complex, and D3 right now.

Last week I made a sort of bolognese with ground pork, carrots, onions, and added some turkey stock I had in my freezer. Oops! I still can't have turkey. Gurgles, crams aplenty, but no relief to the C.
OK, so I took out the lamb bones I was saving and made a lamb and beef marrow bone stock.
Yesterday I managed to make a chuck pot roast with that stock, carrots and onions, so I have something to eat today, though I have already eaten potato chips for lunch.

I think I have the right to be a little bit sick of it, right? The accident with my back has set me back SO badly.

So sorry, Lesley. Wish there was a way to help.

Hi Lesley, Have you thought about renting a power chair or scooter to use in the house until your back heals? It will take out the stress you are under to stand up for long periods and cook. Just make sure if you decide to get one is that the seat is adjustable in height. It makes it easier to have a higher height in the kitchen and can be lowered to the height of a toilet. It will make transfer easier with less pain. Jon

Hi Lesley, did anything come out of the research you and Polly were doing to see if (and to what degree) polio was playing in your super-slow motility and C? I remember reading it was a likelihood. Did you have a chance to talk to your Dr about that?

I'm sorry you are in such pain. Wish I had some bright idea for you.

Hugs. :bigbighug:

Lesley, I'm so sorry that things are still so hard for you. You have way more to deal with than you should!

Here's some long-distance hugs, even though I wish it could be close-distance cures: :bigbighug: :bigbighug: :bigbighug:

Jon, I thought of a wheelchair, but it would be hard to maneuver in this apartment. That's why I got a walker with a seat. I try to sit as much as I can, but it's hard to get close enough to do what I have to do. I have been doing minimal cooking but it's till hard.

Carol - my doctor dismissed the article so offhandedly it was amazing. There is no way he will take any notice of it.

Martha - all hugs are welcome. Long distance is good too. How is Abigail?

Hi Lesley, I have found that a power chair would be a better with limited space. They can do a 360 in a very small space. A power chair has a single level that is so easy to use. The trouble is they can make you lazy and I always make sure that I exercise every day. A scooter takes up to much space. The companies that advertise them will fit you with one that would be good for the limited space. Warning, if you call they ask for way to much information. Do not give them your S.S.N or any credit card or banking information. I know of several people that called the number that was advertised on T.V and two weeks later started getting calls from another country looking for money. I have noticed that every time they advertise, the toll free number is changed every day. Jon

OH DEAR MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU. I JUST PRAY THAT THINGS IMPROVE FOR YOU, IT MUST BE SO FRUSTRATING.
I REMEMBER BREAKING BOTH MY LEGS AT THE SAME TIME YEARS AGO. I HAD TO PLAN EVERY MOVE, MY HUSBAND LOST WEIGHT, PUSHING ME AROUND.
BUT, I WAS GLAD OF THE WHEELCHAIR, AND THE WALKING FRAME EVENTUALLY. I'M FINE NOW, EXCEPT FOR THIS MC, EATING BORING FOOD IS DEPRESSING, I STILL HAVE A COUPLE GLASSES OF WINE EACH NIGHT, SEEMS TO HELP.
HOPE YOU FEEL LIFTED IN BODY AND SPIRIT VERY SOON.

WELSH HUGS AND IRISH LUCK.

Jon, my apartment is small, and the bathroom spaces are tiny.
I won't get a chair until I can no longer get around at all without it. I am not doing much cooking and am not eating as well as I should, but hopefully things will improve. I am getting an caudal epidural on Thursday, and I am really holding thumbs that the nerve pain will be way better as a result. The fx pain- well, that should improve with time.
Gad to hear that you exercise. Power chairs can indeed make you lazy. I am not getting as much exercise as I was getting, and both Licorice and I have "spread" somewhat as a result.

Marie - wine seems to depress me, but I am glad it does an "uplifting" job for you.

Lesley, I am so very sorry to read about what you are dealing with! I have been out of things for a few days and catching up. I have no words of wisdom to offer, but lots of empathy. I too wish I were closer & could bring you some meals to lessen your standing time.
Hoping this ordeal will be short lived and you will soon be feeling better.... Much better.

Thanks Sunny!

Pain is terribly tiring. I cannot wait to see if the caudal epidural helps it. Any relief will be FANTASTIC. 2 more days.
