Wow Anne, thanks for the update on your career. I'm fascinated by the concept and impressed with your success. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.

I was reading your post and thinking how many diverse, high achieving, and uniquely interesting people we have on this site. I love hearing about everyone's interests, careers, families, lifestyles, etc.

Ancestors in your part of Ireland

Post by Lucy »

Hi there,
I'm a long time member here...one of the original members of Tex's site.
Happened to be reading on here when I noticed that your home is, I think, one of the areas from which some of my ancestors immigrated, so I would imagine that I still have a few left over there. That's many generations ago, however.
Did you ever here if there were many who left that specific area where you live before the American Revolution?

If nothing else, studying genealogy makes one want to learn more history and often geography as well.

Nice reading your post.

That is absolutely fascinating. Like Carol I love hearing about the different cultural backgrounds of all the people who have this disease in common, and about their activities. We talk BMs and farts endlessly, and it's truly nice to get to know the person behind all s**t.

LOL! Lesley you do make me laugh!! And Luce, I am sure many left but I would not know the specifics. However, there are plenty of on-line resources which will help you find out. Ironically, my sister (RIP) lived in Gordonsville, Virginia and the old farm she lived on was originally set up by a man from here so you never know!!!

I work for the Minister for the Environment here in Northern Ireland. My particular brief is Education and my energy has focused on Eco-Schools which is an international programme operating in 55 countries in which schools take action for the environment. It is integrated with the school curriculum and involves a seven step programme and ten topics. Schools work through Bronze and Silver awards with the ultimate aim of gaining the prestigious Green Flag Award which is externally assessed. When I started on this project in 2005 less than 50 schools were involved. We are now (as of last Friday) sitting at 1010 out of 1201 i.e. 84% of schools here are now registered Eco-Schools. The Minister has set the goal of 100% uptake and that is what I am working on. I have developed a marketing communications plan and he has written to the remaining 191 schools to encourage them to join! Next year marks 20 years of Eco-Schools and the first Green Flag awarded in the world was to a Northern Irish school back in 1994! So my work is really cut out to make this happen!
Update - 1,066 schools!!!!!!!!!!!!!
