Major Flare need advice antacid

Post by Camie »

I am back with an update. As of Nov 1 my husband is unemployed. He has some sick days and vacation days to keep our bills paid until the end of Dec. Hopefully he will be eligible for unemployment. Health insurance? not sure.

Major flare started first of Oct, when I found out his last day of work was Oct 31. Back on Endocort. I have zero appetite . I am losing weight. Almost every food sight or smell makes me nauseous. I am thinking the nausea might be from acid indigestion or acid reflex. Want is a good antacid that won't cause D

And I found thru a bone density scan I have osteoporosis. I am having a difficult time taking my vitamins . I missed my GI appt .on Oct 21 because I was so stressed about my husbands job loss.

Any advice?

Hi camie, I'm so sorry you're flaring on top of the stress. Can you try pepto to help your nausea? It always works best for me. I know some people can't take it, though, so perhaps try tums? I would probably try to stay away from Zantac and Prilosec because I know they can be contraindicated for MC. I wish you the best for feeling better soon, and am sending my prayers that your financial crisis will be resolved.

So sorry Camie! Stress is a bitch. That alone can make you nauseous.
You might try an H-2 antihistamine…. an acid reducer. I don't use them often, but they do work. One works all day.
I hope things get better soon for you.

Camie,

Are you eating a very bland diet? Stress is a killer for us, I know!

Can you take a walk or do yoga each day? That may help.

maybe do the test and figure out if it is - low acid or high acid

there are many cheap, readily available items that can help with both
http://www.sott.net/article/266284-Natu ... -digestion
(that don't mean taking meds)

If you can afford it, try and stick with Vit d3 supplement (it will help with the acid issue and also the increased level of stress/anxiety)

Stop, breathe and try and go with the flow (totally easier said than done)

This week, my workplace announced that 30% (or more) of the workforce will be made redundant over the next 3 months.
Names will be released on 17 Dec. It is taking all my mindfulness and faith to not be unsettled by this.
Right now I don't have the energy to stress about it, so I have just taken a few deep breaths, and with a bit of help from Polly, I am singing "Que Sera Sera, what will be will be.... " (also picturing myself with big white sunnies, in a 60's V8 convertible...)

I have found that Zantac is very helpful for a short period if you have mast cell issues. It is the H2 blocker and definitely decreases histamine issues and diarrhea for me. It taken too long however, the decreased stomach acid can contribute to worsening problems in digestion. It might be worth a try to get out of a bad spot.

Camie, I'm sorry to hear you are going through such a rough time. I hope something comes along for you and your husband very soon.

I am also prone to nausea and I find that 25mg of meclizine, which is in the over the counter med Bonine, is really helpful. I am also prescribed Zofran but frankly I get more help from the Bonine. I agree with the advice the others have given-- Vit D3, Zantac (you may just have to try it), walking or yoga, etc. I find that if I play out various scenarios in my head and devise a plan to deal with each then I feel better and I realize that whatever comes my way I still have control over the decision of what I will do next (not that I always liked my options but at least I was the one making the decision). Sometimes transitions like this are chances to get additional training to add to our job skills and increase our marketability. And it gives us hope-- and that's important to our mental health. At any rate I hope things turn around quickly for you.

take care,
Carol

Camie, Walgreens, Walmart, and probably about any grocery store. You'll find it next to the Dramamine and anything else that treats motion sickness.

It's handy stuff to have around if you are prone to nausea.
