MC and glucosamine chondroitin...

Post by wmonique2 »

Does anyone take it and does it go well with MC?

I am thinking about taking it for a bad knee but don't want to have any issues with it...

Thanks for the feedback.

I take it, and it doesn't seem to cause me any problems.

I buy the Kroger store brand, called Joint Support: Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM complex. I've called the company, and they say it has no gluten, dairy, or soy.

By the way, did I thank you for looking at my son's book? It was sweet of you to take the time and effort to help him out and encourage him. His daughter practically knows it by heart, he says.

I take glucosamine only (not derived from shellfish) from Freeda vitamins. I avoid fish because of mast cell issues. I haven't had any problems with it, and it helps.

Monique,

I've taken it along with flax seed oil for over 12 years, in order to prevent knee damage. Wouldn't be without it.

I take it, but want to warn about the glucosamine in gelatin capsules instead of tablets based on a recent experience. I have always taken the tablets but saw some capsules on a good sale. I never get heartburn, but a few minutes after taking the first capsule, I got the worst pain and burning in my stomach and up my esophagus! It was horrible. I think that the capsule just dumped a bunch of irritating powder all at once, whereas the tablet dissolves a lot more slowly. I know that a lot of us with MC have sensitive stomachs, and wanted to put that warning out there.

Rosie,

Thanks for that heads up. I'll bet you're right about them dumping too much at one time.

I've never seen the capsules, but it's good to know to avoid them if I ever do encounter them.

Thought to mention too that gelatin is often helpful with achy joints and have read of some finding it helpful with gut conditions. I don't take it myself, but used to work at a gelatin manufacturing firm that had a patent and conducted studies on gelatin improving joint issues.

Lesley,

Abigail is doing well. She had tubes put in her ears, so her hearing should be better, and when she went to the cardiologist last week, he said she only has one tiny hole in her heart, but he's not worried about it, and she doesn't need to come back and see him for two years. She still has the therapy provided by ECI, but she doesn't qualify for Medicaid, so they don't have the extra therapists and nurse any more.

We enrolled Abby in the same child care center that her older brother (he turned 4 today, and Abby is 2) goes to at my work. They only took Abby on the condition that I stay with her since they don't have the staff to work with special needs kids, so I adjusted my work hours so she can be there two mornings a week. She loves it! It is good for her to see what the other kids are doing, and try to imitate them. The social interaction is important.

She is walking well. Still doesn't swallow well, so most feeding is through the g-tube. She babbles a lot, but no real recognizable words yet, although you can tell she's trying with words like ball, shoe, and Grandpa.

Thanks for asking.

(For those many who have joined since Abby's birth, she is my granddaughter, who has Down syndrome and a swallowing disorder called dysphagia.)

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Martha, I wish I could have helped with son a bit more...I gave him some pointers about his little book and the publishing biz.

I am so glad to hear she is getting on well, Martha! I wish they would maximize her therapy. Kids like her deserve it. Luckily she has a loving family. Nothing can replace that.
