Need Your Advice - re colonoscopy prep
Hi Good Buddies!
For my first colonoscopy I used the Go-lytely (swamp water). My second one is scheduled for mid-Jan. (it was originally for Dec. 20 before I realized how inconvenient that time was!). I know we discussed this before but I would love your input again. My doc is letting me choose the prep method I wish - Go or Nu-lytely, Fleet phospho-soda liquid (3 oz. of liquid 6 hours apart, or visicol pills (many, large sodium phosphate tablets). What have been your experiences with the above, and what do you plan to try next time? Thanks.
Love,
Polly

Hi Polly,
I think I tried 'em all, during my first go-round at the clinic. Looking back, I believe that I had the least problem with the Fleet phospho-soda liquid, but that may be because the biggest issue for me, was just getting all the prep down, without vomiting it back up. That was over 5 years ago, though, so considering my generally mediocre memory, (especially about things that I don't like in the first place), take my thoughts with a grain of salt.
Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Polly!!
I agree with Wayne and Barb.. Go with the Fleets....
What I did was have a lemon cut near by and after I shot down the first dose, I bit into the lemon.
None of it is fun prep..
They need to come up with 1 pill to swallow and that's it!!!
No wonder so many people don't have their colons checked after 50....
Love

Hey Polly,
My only suggestion is to find out if any of those things contain any of your intolerances. I wonder if my first prep had sulfites in it, because it was so extremely irritating. *Remember when the question was raised about the possibility of a false MC diagnosis due to the cleanout substances? I was diagnosed with LC at the first colonoscopy, and the doc couldn't find evidence of it a year later. Yet I can induce all the symptoms instantly by eating incorrectly. (And for the second colonoscopy I took less of the little green bottles, despite instructions, because of what it did to me on previous times)
That and they tell everyone to take the same amount of the stuff, regardless of how much they weigh. For someone who's close to 100 lbs to take the same amount as an adult man seems weird to me.
Actually, I'm just realizing, he didn't take biopsies the second time. Might the lab have seen LC?
Anyway, there you go. Isn't it great to have this website to share experiences? How else could we ever learn about this problem?
Love, Marsha

Welp, Polly, my only experience was with those many big, white tablets, so don't really have an opinion about the other methods.
Do remember what grannyh said about her trouble starting with that prep, however.
Didn't someone say a while back that some docs have lowered the number of tablets they order to do a sufficient prep without as much trama? Where did I read that -- on the old board??
One thing about all those tablets, and all that fluid that you hafta find time to get down between tablets and D, is that you don't have time to think about ANY of your other troubles during the whole thing!
Welp, that's my experience, anyway. Not much help, I know...
Will eagerly await those results. Have a feeling I know what they will be, don't you?
Yours, Luce
