The reason why not on meds...I don't have A Gastro doc; tried to get my PA to try the Elevil, or even Entocort, but she wants to refer me. That doc would want to do a colonoscopy most likely before he would treat me.
The prep for colonoscopies are very hard on my body, in 2008, I became so weak I was crawling to the bathroom. The prep solution can be hard on kidneys, I'm concerned mine would be in trouble as I have CKD now after heart surgery.
So I am trying to heal with foods. My symptoms are nothing compared to those I had with Cdiff! Have been doing the GAPS protocol; my daughter overcame Ulcerative Colitis eating that way. But I am slowly adding foods that are not on that plan to see if that will help.
I have had so many specialists over the years who didn't seem to know what they were doing, that frankly, I've been burned too many times to want to add another doctor to my collection. ..why waste my higher co-pay? I no longer expect the "professionals " to help me. And I'm too weary of fighting the system...but stubborn enough to not let myself undermine my efforts to heal by eating any gluten or dairy & to keep trying to find what will be efficacious for healing.

I'm with you Sunny, no longer willing to give away my money to doctors who not only can't help but often give harmful advice. I trust myself to be able to figure out what diet works for me (with the help of this forum) so I don't require a doctor's input. I am wondering if you have tried eliminating soy along with gluten and dairy if you are still having problems?sunny wrote:The reason why not on meds...I don't have A Gastro doc; tried to get my PA to try the Elevil, or even Entocort, but she wants to refer me. Thanks so much for your suggestion about soy. No I don't eat soy, use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce, & read labels of everything scanning for it.
I think I'm on the right road, though, as I am having a few good days every now & then. I've been under the weather for a while with heart issues, but better & will post more soon.
I'm with you about trusting myself and the members here.

Monique...answer to why no meds
Sunny,
I totally get it...except that I was near death until I got medicated with mesalamine and elavil. That's when the D stopped and I started eating. It took me 4-5 months before I got dx'd. I didn't have a colonoscopy first. Maybe you'll find a doc that won't ask for a colonoscopy. They are very harsh on the body for sure.
Hope you feel better soon.
Regards,
Monique
