Keep an eye on it. Stretch your hand fully often. Use and exercise ball to keep it supple. If there is ANY development go see a hand therapist. It could stay like this forever, in which case nothing needs to be done.
It's also an idiopathic disease of the tendons. I also have 2 trigger fingers in my right hand. All tendon problems. I never thought they could be attributed to MC. Hmmm. What a thought.
Functional is OK in my book. My hands are functional, as long as the function doesn't involve something very fine motor or requiring much strength.
Did he get some exercises to keep it functional?
He should warm it well before he exercises and ice it after. In fact he should exercise it in warm water. If he gets used to doing it in the shower he has more of a chance of keeping it mobile.
