Dupuytren’s contracture

Post by JLH »

Another possible gluten related disorder......

I have two little bumps on my palm, I think started with one and then grew another. I always wondered about them but they have never grown or changed.

If found info about Dupuytren’s contracture on Suzy Cohen's site www.dearpharmacist.com She is a Gluten Summit presenter.

Keep an eye on it. Stretch your hand fully often. Use and exercise ball to keep it supple. If there is ANY development go see a hand therapist. It could stay like this forever, in which case nothing needs to be done.

My father in law has a pretty significant case. He just had injections to help stretch it out. I hope my husband doesn't get it.

Not a fun thing. Did the injections help? I hope so.

Strange. I have Dequervain's in my left hand:

It's also an idiopathic disease of the tendons. I also have 2 trigger fingers in my right hand. All tendon problems. I never thought they could be attributed to MC. Hmmm. What a thought.

It did help, but the hand is not 100%, just functional.

Functional is OK in my book. My hands are functional, as long as the function doesn't involve something very fine motor or requiring much strength.
Did he get some exercises to keep it functional?

Yes, I recall he has to stretch it out himself, even to the point of pain. I doubt he's doing all the exercises he's supposed to though.

He should warm it well before he exercises and ice it after. In fact he should exercise it in warm water. If he gets used to doing it in the shower he has more of a chance of keeping it mobile.
