Diet Indiscretions

Post by Polly »

Hi Good Buddies!

Well, I feel like crap today, and it's 100% my own fault. Over the past few days I have knowingly eaten some bites of no-nos - like garlic mashed potatoes and saag (Indian spinach dish) - both made with dairy. Then last night we went to the movies and I ate popcorn. It's really funny - I can eat a few bites of no-nos once in a while, but when I do it several days in a row, it catches up with me with a vengeance. Yesterday I was majorly bloated and had those old musical rumbles. Today I awoke with D, a headache (can't remember when I last had one), and overall achiness/malaise. I am positive I am not coming down with anything. After 5 years, I am pretty sure I can tell the difference between a "bug" and food indiscretions.

I really don't deserve any sympathy from y'all. I just feel like whining a bit because this time of year it's really hard to pass up all of the goodies.
I continue to be amazed at how WONDERFUL I feel when I eat NONE of my triggers and how rotten I feel when I even sneak just a few bites. At least I am now determined to eat safely for the rest of the holidays. The way I feel today has cured me from experimenting in the near future. And to think I felt like this everyday for years until I discovered and eliminated all of my intolerances. I can't believe how quickly the "blahs" come back with just a few bites of triggers. AMAZING, isn't it?

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly,

Well, you certainly have the right to whine, especially since that's something that you rarely do. Believe me, I understand exactly how you feel. In fact, your comments immediately brought back to my thoughts, the memories of the 3-day trial that I tried about a month ago.

Obviously, I didn't end up in the hospital simply because of the 3-day trial. It was implicated because it was the latest suspicious activity that I had been involved with. The surgery was inevitable, whether I had tried the 3-day diet , or not, in my opinion.

So, instead of eating your intolerances every day, wouldn't you be better off if you tried a 3-day rotation? Everything you mentioned, had dairy ingredients, (I'm assumign that the popcorn had butter, or a substitute).

Dairy is what finished me off, during my 3-day trial, but it may have just been a coincidence. Due to the condition of my diverticular issues, I may have been scheduled for a derailment that day, regardless of what I ate.

I hope your symptoms go away pronto, so you can enjoy the weekend.

Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Dear Polly,

I know exactly what you're talking about, and you have my sympathy, even though you're not asking for it. I did the same thing last week; ate chicken taquitos - they didn't have anything obviously bad for me except dextrins. The first night I had 2 baked on the side with dinner. Thirty hours later I went to the BR something like 5 times in the morning, but other than that I was ok. The second night I had 5 of them for dinner, with vegetables. Thirty hours later major D and almost threw up. The third night I had a couple with steak and other food, and 30 hrs later felt iccky, but didn't have D. Anyway, long story, but I'm sure it's the same pattern for you: a little once in a while is tolerable, a few days in a row is really bad, and it makes a difference if you have other foods in your stomach.

Sorry, it would be nice to think that things heal over time, and intolerances were tolerated.

Total sympathy, Love, Marsha

Welp, guess it's a good thing that this is the time of the year that I hardly get to get out of the house. Have no social life anyway, what with all this patient care, and all my friends live out of town now. Even mom can hear and see her "little people," but she can't hear a thing I say. Go figure!

Anyway, I'll be so glad when New Year's has come and gone. That's gotta be the dumbest thing to celebrate -- just another day on the calendar. I don't get to do one thing socially for Christmas or New Year's except sit in this house all day with Mom, so no temptations here. That's about the only thing good about it, but then perhaps I'm just tired or something tonight.

Anyway, Polly, like you said, you're cured of attempting that again, at least for the time being.

Thanks for the support, my fellow MIs. I am happy to report that I am MUCH better. Stayed home all day yesterday and monitored every single bite that went into my mouth. The headache was 50% better and is now gone. The D has progressed to soft-serve, and the aches/pains are gone. So all in all, I guess I'm lucky it wasn't worse. Maybe it's a good thing I'll have to do the cleanout next month for the colonoscopy. It will wash all of those miserable antibodies out. :toilet:

Polly,

Now I KNOW you're a positive thinker! Hahaha!

Glad you're feeling better. Perhaps tomorrow, you'll be all back to normal.

Yours, Luce

LOL, Luce! Sometimes I do have to dig pretty deep to come up with that old silver lining!

Polly and Luce

Yes! A positive outlook always make a big difference.

One of my favorite silly truisms that always makes me smile and chuckle if not laugh is-

You can’t be optimistic with misty optics.

HaHaHa.

My best

Misty Optics HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Polly, I wrote a little sympathy note for you some days ago but when I hit the submit button it got lost and I didn't have time to retype.

I know you will be feeling much better already. What a terrible thing to do, though, eating all those forbidden fruits - and all at once.

Love,
Karen
