We went to DD1's house. Being she's my daughter, I could tell her which turkey to buy. I brought my gravy, muffin and noodles - the same meal I eat every three days. I did sample a sweet potato slice that DH made. The next day I noticed some fat in the chilled potatoes. Then he remembered he put butter in them  I was no better, no worse the next day. Maybe my slice didn't have much on it.

Jean - what a nice story - I'm so very happy for you - thank you for sharing :). It's also great to hear that so many others had a wonderful, stress free Thanksgiving.

Love,
Kari

I was invited by a couple who is GF,DF, SF...so, I was good. I made a couple of things that I brought along.

As Tex would say, it doesn't get any better than that!

Gabes - I have it. I will try it, but what do you mix it with.

I get so ambitious when I am sitting. 5 minutes standing? I am done!

Lesley,

Talking about standing up in the kitchen---I had to solve that issue when I had knee surgery a few years back. I had to get in the kitchen and couldn't stand there so I dragged my office chair, raised it high enough so that I could work on the kitchen counter. It was great because it rolled around on the kitchen floor and i moved easily in the kitchen.

Just an idea...

i have a DF GF LF SF nut free spread (margarine/butter replacement)

to make a crumble, rub the spread, coconut flour and coconut sugar with your hands
(like what you do to make pastry)

if you can tolerate cinnamon, include some of that!

Thanks all.

I did it with nuts and some oats. Not really crunch, but still good. I will try it with coconut flour next time.

Monique, as a therapist I do all the things I suggest to patients, including your suggestion. I use my office chair or the chair on my walker. I keep needing to get up, and after 10 minutes I am dead beat. I will keep trying.
I have a UTI now, so I am even more tired.
Maybe when I get the anti biotics and feel better it will work better.

Hi Jean,

Great update! Glad you had a good experience! I think we'd all prefer to call ahead but sometimes you just have to wing it.

I was going to a friends house and offered to cook and bring the turkey, hostess declined so then I offered to buy the turkey and drop it off so she could cook it. Hostess declined and said she'd talk to the butchers at Publix. Next day she called back and took me up on the offer to buy the turkey and she'd bake it. As fully 50% of the turkeys on sale at PUblix had gluten in them it worked out well and I thawed it and dropped it off at her house the day before so she could bake it.

In addition to supplying the turkey, the BF and I brought mashed potatoes: potatoes, ghee and salt. I got lots of compliments on them. I also brought a tossed salad.
I also brought a GF pumpkin pie.

The dessert table had a store bought apple and pumpkin pie from Publix, a store bought apple pie from Perkins and my GF pumpkin pie. MY GF PUMPKIN PIE WAS THE BEST BY FAR!!!!!!!! I bought a frozen GF pie shell from the health food store and made pumpkin pie filling. This was my pumpkin pie filling recipe http://www.elanaspantry.com/paleo-pumpkin-pie/. It only took about about 15 minutes to make the filling. I felt sad for the people eating the store bought pies. I kind of remember store bought pies as being overly sweet and when they are fruit store bought pies they are mushy. Really....what is so difficult about making a pie for Thanksgiving? A homemade pie is far superior in taste! The non GF folks all had 4 slices of the various pies and liked mine the best I think because of the fresh ingredients. The recipe has coconut milk in it which I do not like but you could not taste the coconut milk.
