That's a good question. The answer probably depends on whether the inflammation is due to lymphocytic infiltation (associated with MC), or whether it's due to too much acid, associated with a mast call disorder resulting in the release of too much histamine — histamine prompts the parietal cells in the stomach to increase the production of acid).

There's also a wild card here, and that's the fact that for some of us, H2 antihistamines (such as ranitidine) can cause us to react, unfortunately.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

HI Darla, Are you keeping a food and poop diary? I found when I did that I was able to see patterns when I looked at the month as a whole. (I used a calendar where I could see the entire month at a glance). Also have you 'challenged' all the foods you are eating now? The reason I ask is that in an effort to get more vegetables into my diet I decided to challenge spinach, afterall my MRT testing had it in the green. Well, 1 serving of sauteed spinach in the evening set up 3 hours of watery D the next morning. This was a real surprise since I'm C prominent. If I had not done a tightly controlled challenge it would have been hard for me to tell what the culprit was. This way there was no doubt.

Just some ideas off the top of my head. As you've all heard me say before it's been 2 steps forward and 1 back while I was healing and it took 2 years for me to get to remission. It does happen, but it's not a quick process.

Hang in there.
Carol
