Question about soy
I read that I may be able to safely have something that has soy lecithin or soybean oil in it as they do not have the soy protein in them... Anyway, what is the feeling of my experienced friends? Also, would I get an immediate reaction or is soy culmulative like gluten if I were to try it on purpose or my mistake? Trying to expand my knowledge....

Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end.
Jean,
The "experts" claim that both soy lecithin and soy oil are safe for anyone who is sensitive to soy (based on their claim that these items do not contain any soy protein). Unfortunately this is another example of where the "experts" are dead wrong, as many members here can attest. The soy lecithin in chocolate has tripped up many members, for example.
Most reactions to soy are relatively prompt, within a matter of minutes to a few hours.

Probably. A soy reaction is usually one of the faster reactions that we have to deal with.
That said, if your condition steadily deteriorates after you add such things to your diet, please remember to consider soy as the possible cause.

I thought I was fine with soy oil, lecithin, even soy sauce the past few years. Then I completely stopped all soy additives when I went on the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol for 50+days. I ate a GF chocolate pastry last week made with soy lecithin and had immediate, sharp stomach pain, then rapid D (first bout of D in a month). I was shocked to be having the same reactions as my daughter, who is IgE allergic to soy. No more soy anything for me!

Pam would scare me. What's in it anyways? I stick with olive oil and coconut oil for cooking. Depending on the meal, bacon grease or meat drippings work too. It's all natural stuff with no extras added. I peel off the layer of fat from a roast after it cools and toss it in the freezer for later use. Adds a nice flavor to rice.
I get an immediate stomach ache when I eat something with soy. It's almost more challenging than gluten because it is in absolutely everything.

when i first went soy free in mid 2010, finding soy free products was not easy.
Now-a-days i notice alot more products that are soy free, and most make it very clear that the product is soy free.
The demand for soy free is there, and some of the truths are making it into mainstream media...
I will admit that Aus has pretty good labelling laws, andif there was a place on the globe to have MC with multiple intolerances, i think AUS is the pick with affordable fresh food, and pretty good labelling laws, and it has made my MC journey easier.

It was devastating when I first started out. I would get all excited to see a GF section in the grocery store only to be let down that there was soy in it. It's probably better, at this point anyway, to pass the GF section and stick with whole foods. There are are lot of ingredients that could foul up my progress. I didn't think I would get there but food now is for energy instead of enjoyment. Maybe someday I'll get back into my love of cooking but for now I just want to get in and get out. I'm learning self control with my emotions or maybe I just got tired of having a melt down every time I opened the cupboards. Tiny steps that lead to acceptance.
