Antidepressant question

Post by lorimoose »

Hi,

My LC is under control. Diet and Lialda seem to be the answer for now.

However, I have hit a personal wall, so to speak. I have been off meds for 3+ years, but it is time for immediate help. I am miserable. I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow.

Wellbutrin caused extreme anxiety in the past. And years of zoloft probably helped create my LC.

I know we are all different, but I would like some suggestions. I have been doing a lot of research, and there are pluses and minuses with all medications. I just want to be prepared to turn down the SSRI, and give my doctor some suggestions that could work for me. I think she will be receptive.

Thanks for your help.

Warmly,
Lori

Hi Lori,
Glad to hear that your LC is under control but sorry that you're suffering emotionally. I have never taken anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds but my husband has had great luck with Effexor and I don't believe that it has any GI side effects. Good luck in finding the "right" medication.

Thanks Cathy, it is reassuring to hear about good options. I have made a small list from the archives, that some people have had positive experiences with. The medications change so fast, that I didn't want to miss out on the "magic pill"....of course it does not exist. I didn't think I would ever need them again.

I have learned from LC that healing is a lifeline journey. I like that I can be pro active with LC and see some results over a long period of time. Every day I can carefully construct my diet, and usually keep things in check. Once I get over this bump i will look for alternatives to well being too.

Someone here said, 2 steps forward, one step back, and that sure is truth!!

Update , I saw the doctor today, and she prescribed Effexor xr. I am relieved just knowing that things won't spiral out of control, and my priorities to heal my MC will not get sidetracked. My LC is like walking a type rope. I'm glad I made that phone call...with the encouragement of my daughter.

This may be life changing, but life can still be good. Thanks to all who walked these steps before...it is nice not having to create the wheel.

Warmly,
Lori

Hi Lori,

I'm glad that your doctor was so supportive. The one thing we don't need when dealing with MC is more stress, and any way that we can find to minimize stress has to be an advantage.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
