SOY in your tea? YEAP.

Post by wmonique2 »

NEVER assume anything...Be diligent even when you don't think it is necessary...

So I bought Bigelow Chai tea. Bring it home, decided to check the ingredients. SOY! Why do I need SOY lecithin in my tea?

Go figure!

I buy only loose tea, no additives. Online you can find them at Mountain Rose herbs: https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/, Rishi tea: http://www.rishi-tea.com/, or Adagio Teas : http://www.adagio.com/ Of course they are prices but...

I noticed that quite a few of the Celestial Seasonings tea also have soy. Their peppermint does not and is a pleasant change for wintertime. But for the most part, I stick with loose tea. I think the loose is more flavorful than bags anyway.

Why would tea need a binding agent?
Last week I bought some vitamin C drops, the kind that are citrus flavored and like hard candy. I think they were Halls brand. SOY in those too!! I didn't see that until I came home. I never expected to have to check that label.

I feel your pain. :???:

We happened to find a tea company www.enjoyingtea.com that has very good prices and good customer service. We also use loose tea and have particularly (if you like very flavorful tea) enjoyed Russian Caravan and Irish Breakfast. They have a lot of varieties.

Hi Monique and all,

I discovered soy in Bigelow teas (my favorites....sigh) a few years ago and was also surprised and indignant. I think it's used in making the artificial flavorings. It's always something, no?

Love,

Polly

I highly recommend organic Numi teas. I buy them from Vitacost. They are GF and non-GMO, so I imagine they are SF too. Recent studies have shown very high levels of pesticides and chemicals in non-organic tea, so buying quality tea is important.
