Paleo Too Long? Have to Vent

Post by MBombardier »

A friend of mine who has multiple health issues was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease earlier this year. Her naturopath has had her on a Paleo diet for a couple of years now. She is feeling better, but not as well as she would like, so recently she talked to another naturopath who said that she thought my friend had been eating Paleo for too long. WHAT????

It turns out that this naturopath is associated with/sells Golden NeoLife (GNLD) stuff. I had never heard of it, but I checked into it after talking to my friend. Apparently these products are hugely popular, and there are lots of testimonies to their effectiveness. But their "core" products are riddled with--you guessed it--gluten and soy!

I hate to imagine what taking these supplements will do to my poor friend. I haven't talked to her since last Sunday, so I don't know how she's doing. Her immediate family has gluten issues, including celiac disease. Does this naturopath think that it doesn't matter that these supplements have gluten in them??

Thankfully, she is starting to look into histamine issues; in fact, that was her main purpose in talking to me.

Hi Marliss,

My dad had Lyme disease earlier this year. It was the first thing the docs tested him for when he finally decided to get help for his mysterious illness. Oddly, even though they did this test first, it took a lot of phone calls and pestering to get his diagnosis three months later. Just another gripe about how next to useless our medical system is if you don't advocate for yourself...anyway, he's fine after antibiotic treatment.

GNLD looks like a multilevel marketing scheme? I hope your friend won't get sucked in by this company.

My prayers continue for Austin.

The paleo diet has worked for well over a million years. Why would it suddenly stop working now?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
