The Miracle That Is MSM

Post by wmonique2 »

Hello friends,

I took MSM for several years for joint issues (a bad knee that got worse after surgery ;-) but stopped taking it when diagnosed with MC thinking that I was already taking an anti-inflammatory (mesalamine) and didn't need MSM.

Wrong. Apparently mesalamine targets the gut and not the joints. The joint got worse affecting my lifestyle. So, tired of being in constant pain I gave it a try yesterday (bought that and glucosamine-chondroitin). It is amazing. Within a few hours, I was walking without a limp and without pain. Today I got out of bed without pain. I had energy all day yesterday. If you take it, take it during daytime. If you take it too close to bedtime it might keep you awake.

A happy moment.

Great news, Monique. My knees have been hurting badly lately - and I exercise. How much do you take? I will follow your lead.

The Miracle That Is MSM

I bought the 1000mg pill. Walmart has it free of all the irritants. I started with one a day with breakfast. I increased to 2 today. You can take as much as 4 (4000 mg) a day. I think I could have stayed with one a day. Today I am totally pain free. I don't even think about my knee or any other joint and I have tons of energy.

Hope it works for you.

I bought glucosamine-chondroitin which is already in a formula and in the right ratio and MSM separate. The reason is because most combo that has all three of them doesn't have a high enough dosage of MSM so I just bought it separately.

I was wondering what the individual dosages of the glucosamine and the MSM pills are that you take....

Sounds like a great fix! I'm really not familiar with MSM though....

I bought MSM powder for my skin rash, but only mixed it with coconut oil and applied it topically. It burned slightly, but in a good way (I read it would burn). I've decided to try taking it internally, although I have to figure out how to ingest the powder. I hear it tastes gross. My mother has told me sulfur is used for all sorts of skin ailments in Guatemala, so I really want to give it a good try.

Thanks for the heads up about not taking it at bedtime! I take most of my vitamins before bed, just bc it's the only time I remember!

Z.,

What don't you buy the pills? Get some without all the irritants, they are very reasonably priced...and a lot easier to swallow. I hear that powder is difficult to swallow. It's supposed to help acne too. It comes as a cream too for face. If you have an oily skin and acne, it will probably help. Not good if you have normal to dry skin, it will dry it further. I have it in liquid form too which I apply directly to my knee when I need quick relief. It works instantly.

Well, I've been on the MSM and glucosamine chondroitin for a couple of weeks. Still sore as heck. I guess I need new knees - but I'm much older than you so that's not surprising.

Monique, do you attribute it all to MSM or is it the combination with glucosamine/chondroitin? I haven't had much success with the latter 2. I recently tried just chondroitin sulfate because it is purported to be a mast cell stabilizer, but I reacted to it (or something in it).

A few years ago I had neck and back problems, couldnt sit for 5 minutes and felt my neck was slipping forward and cracking and hurtin. I had tingling, pinched nerves radiating to legs, arms, fingers, face, the whole shebang. Had an MRI I think I found some disc problems but they thought it wasn't related, not sure if it was either.

However I read a research article in holland about a guy curing his herniated discs with Glucosamine and I bought the same brand (Nutramax) and did everything he did for almost two years religiously.

The key is that the joints do not have a direct blood supply in the spine not sure if its the same in knees so one has to exercise and move the spine gently with swimming tennis or lots of gentle walking I mean lots....thats how the glucosamine or other supplements must get inside the cartilage at least thats what the paper said.

Today I have no problems with my neck back and its like I never had them(though they may come back someday). I did swimming, walking like 2-3 hours straight a day and 4 caps of nutramax glucosamine a day. But be careful ! I wasn't in a lot of pain that's how I endure the physical activity, but I had a lot of pinched nerves. I no longer take them and I dont take care of my back today at all it doesn't hurt the slightest ...also other health problems along with MC are ripping me apart dont have no time for no silly back pain  (maybe ill change my mind if the problems comes back  ).

I don't know if it was placebo :cat: or not what helped me and I really don't care but the guy had a before and after MRI and showed real improvement. I didn't have an after MRI. It took me almost year to show improvement by the way

Hope this helps....
