Phenylephrine HCL, Diet Pepsi, or Other ?

Post by DJ »

Hello all, Since MC, the only medication I've taken is for MC or D with the exception a about 4 or 5 Tylenol (total) and Imitrex twice. I caught my husband's cold/fever this week and yesterday I had Phenylephrine HCL (Sudafed PE) twice and two bottles of Diet Pepsi. I had not been using either one of those.
Yesterday, my gut sounded like a creaky door and last night I was up frequently in the night with the extreme burping I talk about. That unusual burping had not gone away but had become less severe with my new diet and Entocort and I think it is related to MC.
Are any of you intolerant of Sudafed PE or Diet Pepsi?

Thanks

DJ,

Most of us can't tolerate artificial sweeteners. I have no idea what ingredients are found in Sudafed PE, but the Diet Pepsi contains a large enough dose of artificial sweeteners to cause many/most of us to react.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yes, Tex, I can see that might be the case. It sure tasted good going down being I can't taste right now. I'll switch to ginger ale and I'm not taking any more of that medication either. I'd rather have a runny nose that a back step. I'm treating the burpy GERD as part of the bigger picture. I feel like a detective who goofs up the case now and then - Inspector Clouseau, I suppose. :mallet:

Thanks

 I think we all emulate Inspector Clouseau, now and then.

When I am sick, I do take Sudafed and am perfectly fine. Keeping my sinuses clear prevents me from getting a sinus infection ( which would lead to antibiotics). The diet coke is a no no though.
