I'm in trouble...in atrial Flutter

Post by sunny »

This morning I had a routine Interrogation of my pacemaker which shows the heart's activity. That rapid heart beat I wrote about & kept calling the Cardiologists office about proved to be Atrial Flutter. I am so frustrated! The PA argued with me about my heart rate ... That it was "within the normal range"...then didn't return my call last Monday. I knew it wasn't normal for me!
I had to see the cardiologist next & she became defensive & said I was in trouble because of stopping so many meds... I disagreed, said I only stopped one... Generic Coreg ...replaced by continued release Coreg. So she calmed down... I will need to go on an anti coagulant as risk of stroke is high. She suggests Xarelto... Faster acting than Coumadin& no food problems with it.
Also need a Cardioversion to shock heart back in rhythm...I have had a cardio-vert 5 or 6 times when I had Atrial Fibrillation....scheduled for 27th...so it's going to be long week...
She warned me not to take the Xarelto till she called tonight with the dosage , depending on kidney function test. No phone call...so no protection.... Guess I'll take a lo dose aspirin to have some blood thinning.
Researching flutter ,I learned it can be caused by serious illness...hmmm...Cdiff for 5 months with MC qualify? Danger is potential for stroke and further heart failure. We don't need both of us as stroke victims!
I'm scared, frustrated, angry...I'm too old for this! Actually, that can be another source of flutter... Sigh...

Good morning Sunny, I am so sorry that you are having difficulty with cardiac regulation. I am close to two people who have difficulty regulating their atria who have pacemakers and are on anticoagulants. Some of these heart conditions cause a person to feel tired, then along with feeling tired comes the extra chore of taking care of the problem so that blood flow will be healthy. I hope you can maintain light activity (move around) and get some rest so you have the "get up and go" to keep your medical appointments and get the issue in balance. I'll be waiting to hear how it goes. Hang in there!!! :bouqueofpinkroses:

Morning Sunny,

From one that has a heart condition I totally sympathize. I am lucky to have a great cardiologist and he recognizes problems immediately and is never too busy to see me if I think there is a problem. Try to keep the stress level down - I know it is hard - and I do hope things will work out well and they get you the meds you need.

Love, Maggie

Hi Sunny,

I hope that you've received that phone call by now so that you're able to start taking a blood thinner. I don't understand why she prescribed Xarelto because it works fast, and then said that you have to delay taking it until she checks out kidney function test results. She needs to get her ducks in a row.

In the meantime, hang tough and think relaxing thoughts, and remember to eat, stay hydrated, and keep those electrolytes balanced.

I have no experience in this area but you are in my thoughts. Hope you get your phone call soon! :bigbighug:

How heart warming to read all the kind words, hugs, and to get bouquets of roses! Thanx so much, it meant the world to me to be ...heard!
No phone call this morning, so I called, left a message...call back in 5 minutes, with apologies for other PA's neglect. This gal is the lead PA & from now on I am to contact her, ask for for her by name...so she can be sure I am heard! Nice...so cleared to start dose tonight. Also have a Rx to take it easy...rest, walk rarely so as to keep heart rate down... Perhaps sleep with mucho pillows so won't feel the racing heart while trying to get to sleep. (It was so hard not to feel panicky to hear my heart pounding as if I had just run up our hill! and I'm just laying in bed.)but I talked to that hurt puppy in my heart ( thanx Gabes) and calmed her down for 2 hours till she could sleep. I have a great meditation that my Nutritionist gave me that is so helpful and calming.

Tex... The dosing of Xarelto is based on kidney function. My creatinine was not so good in August and she was concerned that my kidneys had taken a hit with all the months of big D, but yesterday's test showed enough improvement to be able to handle 20 mg. And I am also upping my coconut water intake for electrolytes.

Thanx again , everyone...

Sunny,
Calming hugs from Aus.

I too have fluctuations with renal function, (unknown cause) medication and diet changes have caused issues multiple times in the past 2 years.

Hope you got some good rest,
I am sure your body appreciates the nurturing.

Take care

Hello sunny. Ever since I had inflammation around the heart I've dealt with arrhythmias some of them scary and felt like a cell phone but as when the inflammation is at the lowest i didn't feel them at all however I still feel them naerly everyday.

I used to worry about this too much but then over time it doesn't affect me I used to worry about the stroke and all that stuff that could arise because of this but i've run and walked and just ignore these things for now.

I hope this is your case. Not everything online or in the internet is true for everyone. I'm dealing +1year with constant arrhythmia and my last echo showed my heart is fine so far.

It's just the medications they put me on and i put myself on that made things worse in regards to my digestive system.

I notice if I reduce allergens and relax the arrhythmia can completely go away I hope this is your case too and is benign.

I think I had atrial fibrillation too at some point but now I have different arrhythmias.

Sorry to be late to this thread, Sunny. I don't have experience with A Fib personally but there does seem to be an epidemic of it in my age group. Good luck and a big hug.
