Enterolab testing, meds and supplements
I ordered a test kit which I am expecting any day. Does anyone know whether I should stop taking pepto bismol before the test and if so for how long? I also take an herbal anti-inflammatory (Zyflamend) that probably affects immune response. I can try to call them on Monday but am anxious to get this ball rolling so thought I would ask here.
Hi,
That's a good question. IMO Pepto-Bismol shouldn't suppress the immune system significantly enough to affect the test outcome — nowhere near as much as a corticosteroid, for example. I doubt that an herbal supplement would be potent enough to have much effect, either. It might not hurt to call the lab, to get their opinion, because Dr. Fine originally developed the Pepto treatment, so they should have a definitive answer.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
