Does Eating a High-fat Diet Help?
I was reading a post here recently and saw that someone uses bacon grease to cook with in order to get more fat into the body, because they have a problem with fat absorption. Does this really help?
I've been dealing with fat malabsorption for bit and it never dawned on me that if I could take in more daily fat, I might get enough so that I don't lose anymore weight. Normally, I drink Ensure's for extra calories, but I never thought of taking in more fat as I just thought no matter how much fat I eat, I still wouldn't absorb enough to make any difference.

It is high in sugar and contains both milk and soy. It may give you extra calories but it is loaded with ingredients that cause problems for virtually everyone here.

You could try eating extra coconut oil. I have read that it is more digestible than other kinds of fat and it would add calories or you could try coconut milk, which also is high in fat and calories and very low in fiber. If you can eat chocolate I have been making candy by melting 1/2 cup coconut oil, adding in 1/4 cup pure cocoa powder and a few drop of stevia and letting it harden in the refrigerator. Tastes good and would add calories.

I think I've gained back a lot of the weight I lost by drinking coconut milk and eating coconut oil.
Just looking at the ingredients for ensure makes me queasy. That is a terrible concoction. I'm sure ensure is doing you more harm than good, solis.

Three cheers for bacon and coconut products! If you can tolerate it, go for it! Bacon was my best friend during early recovery. My guess is that I've eaten more bacon in the past eight months that in the rest of my entire life totaled. I use the bacon grease too. It makes great home fries or you can fry a burger in it! Silk coconut milk is fortified with vitamins and calcium and it's tasty. Another nice thing about bacon is that you can make a lot at one time and heat it in the microwave as you want it.
I've been big on ham too. The kind on the bone is so tasty and it's high in calories. A big ham last quite a while in the refrigerator too.
Ensure would set me back.

Most coconut milks have all sorts of things in them, such as xanthen gum. The ONLY pure one I have found is at Trader Joe's. It's lite. There was a full fat one at Ralph's (Kroger's) but I haven't seen it for a long time. I use TJ's exclusively.

The Aroy D is a good brand. Was able to find mine at an Asian market. They are good sources for foods that we can't find anywhere else.
I always buy the uncured bacon. One of the nice things since I've gotten sick is not feeling guilty about eating it!
If you are able to tolerate nut butters and/ or nuts, they are a good source of fat.

I make my own coconut milk by putting a cup of coconut in the Vitamix with a cup of very warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then blend on high for 3 minutes. I put it in a glass pitcher and fill it with water to make a quart of coconut milk. It's cheap and wonderful.....if you like it smooth, strain it , but I use it for baking and just shake it well before I use it.
